  • RIP Diesel - My Green Iguana

As of 7:36 this morning, Diesel has passed away.

LB and I noticed he wasn't doing very well on Friday but I assumed it was due to the fact that he was moved to a new environment and was stressed out but yesterday afternoon he was looking worse. LB and I took him to PetFirst in Duluth around midnight this morning to have a checkup. The vet had informed me that his diet, which consisted of spinach/lettace with cricket dust for calcium and a water bowl, was incorrect. I should have been feeding him earthworms with the cricket dust as worms have protein. When you research an Iguana's diet online, there are so many different opinions it's hard to decide which one to believe so I followed what was recommended from the reptile store I bought him from.

What a terrible way to start my week off.

Here is an older picture I have of him.

    :(

Tiger, our Zebra finch, lost his partner last year.. who was a Black throated finch and was the best sounding alarm clock ever.

        Sorry man...

We had to put our 16y/o Border Collie "Zoe" down Friday afternoon, I cried like a little girl when I buried her in the backyard.

That's odd, I have actually never known anyone to feed an iguana earthworms.... and I've known a lot of people with big, healthy iguanas. In fact, I've always known iguanas to be strict herbivores.

Mike, I can still hear Merp's pretty little song in my head. I miss her.

It's amazing how any pet can bring someone down. It goes to show you how much they are a part of your life. Sorry to hear about everyone else's losses as well.

Jenn - LB and I read about other owners feeding them earthworms but then others stated not to. The vet also recommended that we feed him egg yok which I found kind of odd.

Weird. Learn something new every day. Though I always find it odd when people suggest a food that an animal doesn't eat in the wild. Wild Iguanas live on fruits and veggies and do just fine. I know tons of people who have had giant, healthy iguanas who eat only fruits and veggies.

I found a picture on my phone showing Diesel in his favorite spot when I had him out of his cage.

I had an iguana years ago..Canned cat food & strawberries were his favorites. He didnt live in a cage at all, had free roam of the house & used a litter box. He was nearly 4 feet long last I saw him .
