Nissan GT-R Spec V specs revealed by R&T

Posted Jul 28th 2008 10:28AM by Frank Filipponio

Road & Track just spilled the beans on the new Nissan GT-R Spec V, so we can now share their data with all of you. Thanks guys. While the "regular" GT-R is busy bringing down giants and collecting hardware in the process, the new GT-R Spec V promises to improve on the formula, and probably cure cancer or bring about world peace along the way. Here are the numbers: 2 seats only, 520 hp @ 6500 rpm, 440 lb.-ft. of torque all the way from 3200–5200 rpm, 3615 lbs., 'Ring laps quicker than 7:30, $130,000 MSRP, early 2009.

So the car will lose its back seat and enough other stuff to shed 200 pounds, will get an extra 40 advertised horses, cost almost twice as much as the current model and lap the Nordschleife faster than a Porsche 997 GT2. We had that number as low as 7:25 recently, which is just insane. We're guessing there will be enough people that will wait for this model to hit U.S. shores when it debuts in early 2009, but even more who will think they can duplicate the recipe for far fewer dollars and a regular old GT-R. Thanks for the tip, Rob!

I guess we will have to wait and see. In a straight line, no but around the ring might be well.....close. I don't think it will destroy it but it'll be a good comparison.

I think it should beat it, the ZR1 was only a couple of seconds faster than the standard GTR so I'ld be willing to bet this one's quicker.

In a straight line, I believe the ZR1 will outrun the V-Spec with no issues.

Here is a video of a guy that owns the standard GT-R along with a C6 Z06. The GT-R is by no means a straight line car.

 aye but is this a straight line website ;)

The straight line factors didn't even really enter my mind!

Oh and the current GT-R already laps a faster time then the 997 GT2 on the Ring.

See, the Spec-V is just that much more impressive in my mind. The machine's a beast as it is, and then they suck a bunch of weight out of it and add more power? Awesome.

So suck some weight out of a ZR1, put some decent tires on it, up the boost, and watch the V-Spec disappear into the rearview mirror.

Hell, do all of that to a Z06 (add a blower) and watch it do the same thing...There's better to be had out there (than a GT-R)...and in a package that isn't so damn ugly and allows some sort of bond between driver and machine.

The GT-R is great, both models of it, I'm not denying that. They're the next generation of techno-gadgetry, but they're not driver's cars. They're speed appliances, and the fan worship over them is getting insane.

EXACTLY!!! Very few cars today come w/o all the driving aids. Sure, the car is impressive but how impressive is it w/o everything helping the driver out? It's like a robot and all you have to do is tell it where to go and how much of it.

As much as I am embarrassed to say this, I'd buy the C6 Z06 over the GT-R and I personally hate domestics.

I've ridden in a ZO6. I've watched them race. They're good cars, great cars. They sound mean and, with the new 427, they actually rev as high as my Miata does. I expect them to be awesome because it's a freaking CORVETTE, and although the ZR1 is cool, the idea of channeling over 620 HP to the rear wheels makes me uneasy. Once you get past a certain limit you're just getting stupid.

I like the GTR because it's just bizarre. The right way to make a proper sports car is to make it light weight, great suspension with smallish wheels, and balanced horsepower. The GTR is fat. It has huge wheels. The suspension has more electronic aids than anything else I can think of. It doesn't even have a lot of horsepower. And yet it manages to post scorching times and wicked acceleration runs. I'm a self-proclaimed GTR fanboy because it takes the rules for a proper sports car and then runs back-assward with 'em and they still come up with something awesome. I expect it from the Corvette, but it surprises me in the GTR.

I have no use for overpriced fanboi cars. Theyre for the attention whores.
