  • My brake calipers!

    Edit title ^ ( BRAKE )

i think my brake calipers are locking down on my rotors. i can hear a lil bit of a swirling noise coming from that region. and i felt my rotors and there are pretty nice grooves edged in it. and there is about a 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch lip at the edge of the rotor! does this mean that my calipers are locking down?

Edited for you. How much pad life you got left on those? I don't remember looking and checking.
Noise usually indicates something stuck between the pad and rotor or that the wear indicator is starting to let you know you need brakes. OR your rotors are slightly warped and need to be turned on a lathe. Done any locking down on the brakes lately? Be honest... :D

If they were locking you would notice a drop in acceleration and increase in slowing down without hitting the brake pedal. Casey and I had this problem with his 240sx over the summer, turned out to be the wrong brake booster.

If it's a screech then it's more than likely wear indicators. For pads, I went with Hawk Hp +. They dust like mother's but they also brake like it too when warmed up. With rotors, I've never really bought into buying blank Brembo's just because they're Brembo's. More often than not, these generic parts are built in the same factory in the far East. I'm a fan of the autozone rotors from my Subaru days where they seemed to have decent success in terms of track life compared to any other rotor.

It's a disposable metal disc, so unless you have extra cash I wouldn't spend it on the name.
