So I've been debating getting into autocross for the past couple of years but things have kept me getting into it (new job, buying house, ect) but I've now gotten things stable and my mind has returned to it. I know I plan on doing some track days as road Atlanta is right down the road and planned on going through jzilla to do some of those but I have no clue where to start when it comes to autocross.

First off, good call on starting with autocross and working your way up to the track.
Secondly, autocross is one of the most helpful sports! Atlanta region has a great novice program that will show you the ropes. Learn more here: http://www.atlantascca.org/events/solo/novice-program/
Even outside of the novice schools there will be experienced drivers that will ride along with you and give you pointers.sigpic

On top of participating in regular events in Novice class, attend the Novice event when they hold it later this year. They'll set you up with one type of element at a time and let you run just that one element over and over. Then at the end, they'll connect the elements and let you get a full course run after practicing the individual elements. I did that my first year and found it to be a big help.
Also, start with a relatively stock car on 'normal' tires. I started with a race-prep and Hoosiers, which led to bad habits.
Be sure to also check Auto-X Atlanta, another great group that holds auto-x events in north GA.Last edited by ben91; 02-24-2017, 05:00 PM.DIYAutoTune.com

Stop, don't do it, run away! Many, many years ago I saw an advertisement in Autoweek that said: Run your car at Road Atlanta. I took my 1971 MGB to Road Atlanta that turned out to be a Corvette club autocross on the pit lane and front straight. From there it was a SCCA Novice event then every SCCA Autocross for a year, then renting a F-Prod Midget from Jim Creighton for my first drivers school, then buying an E-Prod MGB with my GA student loan money, working two jobs to pay for school and race entry fees. Repeat year after year with escalating from regionals to nationals from E-Prod to GT-3 to the run-off's to SCCA Escort to IMSA International Sedan and so on. It is a legal addiction. We should have racers anonymous!
Seriously though: Enjoy!Last edited by miatastuff; 02-25-2017, 11:46 AM.David Luney - Suwanee GA
