Anybody headed to Daytona for the race next weekend? I've got a guest invitation was thinking about heading down on Friday, but would do whatever (work permitting) if a group was going down. Anybody? - rob

I was thinking around lunch in order to make it to a dinner. I've gotten to jax. in just over four hours, but that was taking i16 over to 95. 16 is usually a barren waste land, 75 just the opposite. Were y'all going 75s and then over at Ocala?

I'm leaving work at about 3 and then we'll grab our stuff and head south. We'll give you guys a call when we get to your area and then we'll gauge if we want to get a head start and then meet up for dinner or something or with traffic and everything we may not get to the south side until you all are ready to go.
I just want to leave as early as possible. I hate getting places in the middle of the night and driving late sucks.2005 Black Mica Mazdaspeed MX-5 - FM Intake - Enthuza Midpipe and Exhaust - FM DP - Hallman MBC - Upgraded Intercooler - Hard Dog Roll Bar - Volk TE37 - and then some...

Looks like I'll be able to get out of here before lunch if I can wrap up all my work tonight. I'm going the same route 75-10-95. Would rather stay near civilization vs. cutting through the Osceola on a two lane. I'll take the scenic route back thru Ocala to Cedar Key for a stop over anyway. This is the first big road trip for my 90 since the engine swap and turbo set up. Biggest prior has been to TGprix and back. Not that I expect anything to go wrong- I've have beaten it hard in boost w/o failure and improvements have been made since. But a six hour cruise may reveal new and different challenges - we'll see.
Did ya'll see the Mazda program going on at the event?
I just talked to my pal about shooting pics down there. He said that the fencing has grown to the point that shooting infield action shots is limited to the tops of the cars on the high bank now. Sad. I can remember when I was a kid and the fence was low enough for me to shoot at that race. Oh well.

I'm leaving this afternoon before work & staying with my brother down there. The plan is to catch the Koni Challenge race tomorrow as well . My brother and I and a few friends will be camping out in the infield, so if you see a silver S2000, a blue Mazdaspeed Protege, a silver VW Jetta wagon and a bright *** yellow corvette circled around a campsite, come say hi and if I've already had a few I may even let you grab a beer :p
I've been the last 2 years. 75>10>295>95 is by far the fastest way. Just keep a close eye on rest stops, that's 99% of the time the only place you see the FL state troopers.
And really the BEST spot to take some pictures is up a the very highest portion of the grand-stands. There isn't a fence in the place you can't see over. Bring your mondo-zoom lens tho haha
I'm so excited I can't even begin to tell you
See y'all at the track :DLast edited by amaff; 01-22-2009, 08:16 AM.
