  • 1993 le on Craigslist

October 4, at around 4pm, a 1993 le popped up on Craigslist. I did not notice it until around 7, at which time I texted the owner. It was still for sale and that I would be the first one to see tomorrow at 10 am. We decide to meet at a Kroger (supermarket).

The 1993 le has 140k Miles. Came with the factory hardtop, Mss stereo, bbs rims w inserts, Nardi shift knob. No check engine light. The pictures showed a clean inside as well as the exterior. All for $3,000.

Next day, I texted at 9 to confirm and that I would be there. Around 9:30 I get a text asking to meet at the house. He forwarded the address. I was so happy I had the stereo blaring and was eagerly waiting to see the car. I get there a little after 10. I see the beauty. It was straight. Not a dent to be seen. The inside looks great as well. The only issue from first glance is the faded paint. I go to call the seller and notice a text. At 9:50, a text stating it just sold. I am pissed. I call and a young girl answers. Omg!!! She begins to tell me someone called late last night and begged to see it first. So they said yes. WTH!!! By writing this, I am trying to restrain from getting angrier. So the next question is, the buyer a member on this forum.

LE's with hardtop aren't exactly falling from the heavens.

Sorry you had this happen (and it was not me). One thing I tell my kids repeatedly, Press the Talk Button. It's easy for someone to blow off digits, much harder to say it to you directly. Yes I'm old school.

I have been in the driveway getting out my checkbook when a guy comes spriniting up the drive waving $100's and yelling I'll give you $500 more. Some people weren't raised right, in that case two: the buyer AND the seller.

^ Great advice and insight from miatastuff.

Good deals don't last long; the bad ones stick around forever lol!

I always go look at a car ASAP and have finances lined up in advance. I've gone to look at cars with a cashier's check in the seller's name in my pocket. Occasionally I've left with no car and the check still in my pocket. Take it back to the bank, no big deal.

100% Agree, good deals don't last and I hate to say it, I don't hold stuff for people either...I don't play the dibs game and don't expect others to accept mine UNLESS someone is en route and traveling...

I would not worry too much about it. I say you should be thankful you were not first. The new owner will find out real soon why it was priced so low and why they sold it so quickly. ;-)

I am old school as well but the older I get as long as a handshake is not involved, I cant blame the seller for taking more money. Am I wrong? What would everyone do?

If I had a buyer say "I'll take it and will be there at 11am the next morning", I'd hold the car till 12 noon before showing it to someone else.

If I had a potential buyer say "I'm interested in the car and want to take a look at it, and if all goes well I'm interested in buying it and will see you at 11am", I'd probably allow it to sit till then, unless I got a response as my first quoted post.,

Each one has a different meaning to the seller.
