  • Dash Cam

I want to buy a dash cam. I will appreciate suggestions. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg
    Thanks,

I like my Viofo A119 cam. It is capacitor-based so it's more resistant to the GA summer heat, records in 1440p, and holds about 8 hours of footage with a 64GB memory card. for $90, not bad at all. FYI, does not stay powered up after you turn the car off unless your 12v outlet stays powered up. There is a model available that has a GPS unit built into the mount so it will record speed and whatnot, but the one I am linking does not have that base.

I would recommend buying the "high-endurance" flavor of MicroSD card, they are designed to handle the higher heat and continuous heavy write operation of dash cams.

Also check BlackBoxMyCar.com -- great resource and great vendor.

Need to think about your goals in having a dashcam. Why do you want it? How important is night time image quality? Do you need it just for when you're driving, or do you want it to have a parking mode? Do you need front only or would you want front and rear dual cameras? Think about those questions and you'll be in a better position to buy the right camera the first time out.

I have this little guy in my 2. It's super simple to set up and easy on the wallet.

And there's a Lightning Deal going on for it RIGHT NOW.

Just bought that the other day, along with their converter so I could hard-wire it into my fusebox. Install was straight forward, and the setup of the dash cam was very easy. Allows you to set date/time, as well as program your license plate number.

On the very first night of driving with it, I was cut off by what I'm assuming was a drunk driver (Cinco de Mayooooo!)
It was dark and rainy, and the footage was actually pretty good. I'd be happy to upload some footage if anyone wants to see what the quality is like.

Actually, yeah. Iff you have the time and the inclination... upload the bit where you got cut off, extra points for swears and curses.

I should probably correct myself. I got cut off, but I would put the blame partly on myself. I took the corner too fast.

And sorry to disappoint, no cursing this time :)
