Who else on here will flat shift their cars? Also any idea on how long a trans can take it with the car making close to stock power? I think its the mustang driver in me that makes me do it.

If I did it on my current car it might last once... going to fourth gear maybe more times. Then again it would probably break the rear loose if it did last through it. Yikes.

A lot of the longevity in a stock miata depends on what kind of clutch you're running. Stock- I think you could break a 1.6 diff doing it, the 1.8 diff would last a lot longer. Stock clutch would probably burn up first.

yeah theres little to no gain in it. but if you do it right, it wont hurt anything. theres also no point in it unless you have a manly clutch that wont slip.

I used to try to do that in my SpecV, but every time, I ended up screwing it up and grinding gears. I figured the .1-.2s I'd gain wasn't worth the abuse on the tranny.

I have stock clutch that has maybe 5k on it and it doesn't slip, 1.8 open rear end, I don't flat shift 2-3 for fear of the inevitable mess up. I will flat shift sometimes when i'm racing depending on the car. Aaron(dundunskert) get your automatic trash out of here. As for cars with power flat shifts are fun. My mustang loved 1-2.
