  • Lets Talk About: Carbs

Thanks to Jesse I have been looking at ITB's and now carbs. I can pickup some bike carbs for CHEAP, how hard would it be to slap them on for kicks? I still have a factory cut manifold I was using for ITB's. I have read of guys doing the same thing with carbs.

What is a good size for a 1.6?

I know EFI is better, ITB's are more reliable, blah blah. I believe it too lol. BUT for fun, who knows as my car sits (well when running) is the stock EFI really better then a set of side drafts? If they can be properly tuned and installed?

Yes I know I make many threads with things I won't do, because learning is goooooddddddddddddd.

that particular engine you have pictured there is the only carbed miata i've ever seen and i don't know what parts he was using. you might be able to use the racing beat carbs for the rotary. I dunno. I know nothing about carbs

Well yeah for a rotary it'd be easy.

I am speaking of my 1.6 Miata motor for this thread. There are quite a few carbed Miatas, and the technology is around, even Mazdaspeed sold carb manifolds as a lot of SCCA prod guys used them.

Just because I have to, here, let me Google that for you.

First result is Keith Tanner's outlook on it (although for a 1.8, can't imagine it being that much different in design). Probably the best place to start your search for information after that would be miata.net and ClubRoadster. As stated, they have been posted up in those forums, and in detail too.

But I don't think that you're going to find a wealth of knowledge on the subject here as I can't recall anyone locally running a carb'd setup (no offense to anyone). Besides Taylor at R-Speed, I think N3v here is the only person running IRTBs. (Yes, I did it again. :D ) And I think N3v was suggesting using the same carbs as the rotaries use, not suggesting to go with a rotary.

Yeah I have searched for a couple of days, just seeing if any of you knew anything or tried anything for fun.

Actually, I think I saved one of the threads on my other computer when I was researching IRTBs in like Jan '07. Let me fire that old thing up and see if it's actually on there.

Wow, that's a filthy engine bay.
Sorry, no go on the files. I can't find them at the moment, but then again, that was only a quick search. Damn thing has a 120GB HD and it's practically full.

I think it should have a couple of HIF6 SU carbs. I mean, if you are going to copy a British car why not finish the job?

No offense, I don't want British parts on my car lol, I don't need issues ;) Range Rover alone gives off more issues then a DSM.
