  • [Wanted] 2.4 ecotec LE5

Anyone have any good leads on where to pick one up? My last resort will be going to the junkyard to grab one.

Maybe I'm old school but that would be my "first resort".
92 Italia "Competizione Speciale". 91 BRG, '69 Corvette "Mojo". '14 F150 Coyote 5.0. Looking for something blue.

Let me know when You find a good source (CHEAP); I'm looking for one as well to paly with, but can wait for a while since too many projects.
I Couldn't find a LE5 under $500 local, yet I've been able to source J35s for less (and these Honda motor have proved to run up to 300K miles!)

Also I'm not familiar with the LE5 motors - Of all the HHR, Cobalt, and Malibu for sale on CL; a lot of them have blown motors- so, that makes me wonder - Are they really good motors to use?

I think one possible reason that you are seeing bad motors in those cars is that those cars are not necessarily the types of cars that enthusiasts own and therefore may not have seen the best maintenance practices.

The LEA is even newer motor with Direct injection? Plus will run E85 and revs up to 7000 rpm? (not familiar with GM products)
Did you use Ecotec Miata Kit? will everything bolt up the same? Or you custom built it yourself?
Do you have a Built Threads (Journal) in here somewhere?

The LEA will also be more expensive to get since is 2010 or newer, right?

I'm super cheap! The J35A1 Odyssey motor I found was $60 (originally was $200, but I was looking for J35A4 at the time); it turns smoothly and oil seems to be clean, motor was already off the car when I bought it- So, no idea it will run - But just for the Intake manifold alone (or TB) should worth at least that............Plus it came with sub frame, one extra axle with caliper and disc, and steering pump and rack! and the Alternator.:p

Yes it's the newer engine and it makes about 30-40 more HP. The cost was the same vs le5. My engine was around 400 bucks. I'm using the ecotec miata kit and track minded performance is doing my swap.

Best of luck with the J swap, it's a lot more money and work in the end for 20 more HP than the LEA...

Did Mike source the LEA for you or did you find it?

A comment on the engines. The fault was in the block, it was a casti g issue from GM. Be weary, j swap is practical, you pay more up front but save in the end.
                    My two cents
                    1990 Turbo'd sleeper.
Tuner, I can make it go faster.
