No- just me, my pal in Tampa and another dude. He bought it as a wreck for the good parts on it to move to his personal Miata. Then he started parting it out. At the point he was only $200 "in", he still had a running/driving car (that included a 99 engine swap). That's when he decided to build a GRM challenge car. At this point it weighs just under 1700 lbs., has all required safety equipment, programmable ecu, drag slicks, autoX rubber/wheels and we're at $1250. We have a 100 wet shot of NOS on the shelf from CL for $100 with a full tank we can add. It should still run a 13 second quarter as it sits without it though.

I'm stunned at the deals we've picked up during the build on CL. We just added a 6 gallon aluminum fuel cell we got for $20- and the guy gave us three cooling fans while we were there because he was moving and nobody would buy them. We got two of those race seats on a frame for $30 from a stillborn project. The roll bar was bought from a place in Clearwater that makes roll bar / cage kits for everything. We got the all the main hoop with "Miata" bends, the rest of the tubing for the hoop, door bars and an extra 6 ft. tube for just over $200. AND they'd already notched one end for the hoop tubes. His shop is right across the street from a Metal Mart and we went there looking for some steel plate to use on the roll bar feet. The guy pointed us to the scrap bin where all the metal is $1 each! We loaded up - including pieces for the feet that didn't require any cuts.

Cheapo aero mods. Pieced together another complete bumper assembly with the help of a few members here (Nick, Kurt, David). Saved me from cutting my clean bumper. 15-20 minutes to swap them out.

Thanks all! I’m about $90 into it. I wanted the option of keeping the street bumper and making the track pieces modular, learning that from Jack Olsen’s 911. I just hang it on the wall when not in use. I was lucky to stumble onto some info about an off the shelf spray paint being a close match to my mariner. If I did it again, I might use larger radii on the corners for aesthetics, but tried to imagine the airflow to help allieviate the parachute effect and lift the stock bumper and R-pack lip create. I have been wanting to do this for a while, but after looking at the hi-res images from Charlotte up close, I could see the air warping the stock bumper at 100+ mph.

I have found an extra mariner trunk lid I will add a spoiler to so I can swap that out while keeping the original trunk intact. I figure I could probably loan it out to friends at the track to try, too. Hope to have it done before next season. Also going to try to design a modular front spoiler too, but a little at a time.

Looking forward to AMP this weekend to try out the shorter gearing and fresh lifters. I mixed up the HLAs when I rebuilt the second, original engine, so they were robbing me of the power I know this higher compression engine should make.

    Love it.
Hey, can you link some directions for rigging the Fogs so they'll stay on when the headlamps are off?
If you don't enjoy driving your car, you're doing it wrong.
