i've looked and looked to no avail
ripley or mike can usually come through on these requests, but i'd like to see a RED NB (second choice NA) with a BLACK hood and BLACK trunk deck.

i'm getting fade spots on my hood, no matter how much i wash and wax, plus the water spots from PO that wouldn't even clay bar off. i'm seriously considering this look

Depending on how severe the water spots are, you can typically use a more aggressive cutting compond using a PC to remove most of them. If that still doesn't work, you'll have to look into either having the panels wet sanded or resprayed completely.

thanks steve, and i've considered taking it to a body shop but i'm interested to see how the black would look before i make my decision.

That look is on a couple of cars on the Autokonexion site, in the flares section I believe.

Anaaand you're still not listening when we've told you how to try to treat the paint. Clay bar ISN'T FOR BUFFING THE FINISH. Clay pulls very tiny particles out of the paint..not like waxing/buffing/polishing. Honestly, drop the car off with a good detailer and I'd be willing to be you'd get a shock how well things can clean up.

To me, black paint is "i wish I had CF parts but black looks like CF from far away".

Are you still living down here in Newnan? If so, I can recommend a guy that will do a damn good job for a very reasonable price. Mike can attest to him as well as he did the Subie last Friday. The before and after was night/day difference. PM me if you're interested and I'll provide you with his number. Give that a shot and if you're still not satisfied then look into having paint work done but as least it'll be a cheaper alternative for now.

no i don't feel like shelling out $600 for a panel that will weigh a fraction of an ounce less than stock. it has nothing to do with CF parts or wanting it to look CF, i personally belive it would look good.

and ill post a pic tomorrow of the spot, it's not like a waterspot, it's the fade spot that you see on Eclipse's (ie no more red. pink to grey) it was like a baked spot while my car was parked outside with no shade awaiting the diff work the other week

If you're dead set on doing it yourself, I have a bunch of different kinds of compounds you can see if they work.
But you'll have to drive to my apartment, the one behind Steak n Shake. I have a gash in my knee and can't drive for a few days.

That sounds more like the paint is oxided more than anything. Give my buddy a try. He has professional products that aren't available at AZ, Advanced Auto, etc.

No problem. I'll let him know he may have another job to add to his calendar. He will be doing LB's and my mom's car as well.

You missed my opinion's point  But that's cool.

I still say you'd be very surprised what a someone with knowledge and proper supplies can get out of damaged paint. A friend of mine had a red Integra and the whole top of the car was faded/burned to pink...almost white...and with a very light wet sand and buff, the original finish came right back.

Here are some examples of people bringing red back to life...

Hope this renews your hope in restoring what you have!

Now, if you have a textured spot, like the clear coat missing or the paint feels wrinkled to the touch..it can be worked a bit but that kind of damage will require at least a spot blend.

Here are some examples of things that can't be fixed easily-

I say go with Mike's advice and get that **** detailed. Don't do the black. I think your car looks so much better all red. Black seems like an "easy out" to me.

I hate red and black, mainly because it reminds me of UGA and a bunch of stupid rednecks shouting, "GO DAWGS!" but I say either get it detailed and fixed, or polish the hood. That **** looks gangsta!
