As stated in another thread, I should have kept a photo diary of cars...but its too late, so instead here are pics of same or similar that have gone through my hands. Feel free to add yours or comments.

1956 Thunderbird - mine was white w/red interior, continental kit, and porthole hardtop like this one....

http://www.moviepicturecars.com/movie_cars/Movie_picture_cars/1956%20T%20Bird.jpg

1956 Chevy Belair convertible - the one I had was white with black/whit interior, and 265 with Powerglide

http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-1950-1959/1956-Chevrolet-Bel-Air-Convertible-RW-Side-nf.jpg

1970 Dodge Charger RT-SE, 440 magnum, 727 torqueflight, same color as this one except mine had Magnum 500 wheels instead of the Rallyes.

http://px2.streetfire.net/photos/1970-Charger-RT-Yellow_1358500_510.jpg

May daily driver for several years, a RR1 Maroon over maroon 68 Coronet R/T just like this one only mine had no vinyl top. I should have never sold it...I loved that car.

1962 Thunderbird Roadster. 390 w/Ford Crapomatic. Very unusual and kinda cool car BUT a total piece of **** and nightmare to keep on the road.

The only unusual car I had I have no digital pictures of (can't even find a picture that represents the car well) was my 1991 Mazda RX7 convertible. We swapped a complete TurboII front clip into it, RHD and everything. Only Japan got the TurboII 'verts, and since it was RHD, everyone thought it was imported.

We had a black over red 61 Chevy Impala SS with 409, w/4 speed one of 140+ built...however, the engine had been stolen so it had a built 283 and later a 327 installed.

http://www.classicmidsizecar.com/includes/images/Chevrolet_Impala/1961ChevroletImpala.jpg

One car I had alot of fun in was a 1970 Chevelle SS w/ 375hp L78 396 like this one...

Heres a 91 vert...probably not the same. ;)

And, if youre looking for weird pics, try a 1980 Plymouth Volare Premier!

I totally suck at this thread. The oldest car I've ever owned was a 95. lol

ive had 2 unusual cars.

one was a 1996 acura SLX that was lifted 2 inches and had 33 inch mud terrains on it. i dont have any pics but here is a stock photo for reference lol.

http://images.automotive.com/reviews/images/96acrsl_.jpg

its basically a 2nd gen trooper with some nicer options. 4x4, lsd f/r, 3 link rear end with a panhard and coil springs. it had INSANE amounts or suspension travel in the rear, and a surprising amount in the front for an ifs vehicle.

the second one was a 1995 ford aspire. bought it for 750 bucks with only 78k miles on it. i rear ended someone leaving school the 3rd day i had it, and the only hood i could find was red. it was a goofy car, the slowest car i think ive ever driven, but it was unbelievably fun. 5 speed, manual windows, a mazda b3 engine that made 63 hp at the crank... lol. i cut the muffler off so it was a little louder than normal, but not ear splittingly loud like the bmw. this car went through hell. mudding, jumping, hitting all kinds of stuff (99% of the time intentionally), i had it on its side at one point. i miss being able to hop curbs and not having to worry about anything. i used to go to high school football games and park in spots that only jeeps and lifted trucks could get to previously, and when i would leave i would literally drive through the woods at the back of dacula park and onto a backroad to avoid traffic. ahh, the good ole days. i miss the car alot. i saw in on CL for sale not long ago.

...as for regular cars, I had a 87 CRX HF that made a Miatas weight seem like Titanic, weighing under 2000lbs stock ftw. (Weighed less then 1800lbs STOCK, and got 57MPG LOL)

56 Dodge Royal Lancer, (as previously discussed) I am having trouble finding a pic of one the same color combo. The one I had was a mauve color with black & white 3 tone exterior, with black & white interior.

I had one of these, not a year model Vette that gets alot of respect, but I liked the low end torque of the L98 and enjoyed driving it awhile...plus I made 5k+ on it when I sold it...never a bad thing. ;)

http://www.100megsfree4.com/corvette/1980/1986/86red1.jpg

3k of the profit from the Vette went to buy my first Miata...a 1990 classic red B package with hardtop...I have a pic of it somewhere...but here's a sample pic...

http://www.refineddetailing.com/resources/1990+Mazda+Miata+LARGE.jpg

It also became the first Miata I ever parted out after I smacked a phone pole with it...netting over 6k in parts and funding the next Miata, a crystal white 90. I sold the chassis & drivetrain of the 90 red to Les Marsh of Mid Tn Miata fame. (flush headlights & V8 swaps)

A friend an I bought a white 68 Dodge Charger 383 magnum powered car from a 'little old lady' in Chattanooga. She had all paperwork and documents, service records, window sticker etc.
The car had 79k orginal miles and was likely the fastest bone stock 383 powered B body Mopar I have ever driven. It must have been built on a good day. Eventually the car saw the drag strip after we sold it...and the new owner posted a 13.63 et in the 1/4 on skinny street tires. Pretty quick for a huge heavy car.

It was white with black top and interior....similar to this 68....

The 85 had a solid front axle. The one pictured is supposed to be an 85. They all look the same so no way to tell from that picture. I owned several 4x4 Toyotas from that era.

Okay...here's a 'highly coveted' car I once owned, 1980 Plymouth Volare. This ugly car is defined by its square headlights, all other year models had round. Mine was a Mocha Brown Metallic "Premier" edition in 4 dr. haha... It was a company car where I worked and meticulously maintained. Even with 225k it still appeared and ran like new. So when the company disposed of it I ended up with it. My wife beat the crap out of it for a while. It was still running perfectly when I sold it with 275k. Slant six power FTW. ;)

One of the strongest running cars I ever had was a 1970 Roadrunner, 440 6 pack, 4 speed.
The 'six pack' had been removed and replaced with a huge Holley 4bbl and after market intake.
The car was stupid fast and a little challenging to drive with its stiff clutch and 3 mile pedal travel etc. it was equipped with an OEM pistol grip shifter by Hurst. I have driven 18 wheelers that were about as easy to shift. It was my opinion that a previous owner had likely worked the engine over. My favorite aspect of these cars is the optional "air grabber' trap door in the hood that is opened by a switch on the dash to ram cold air into the carb.
The one I had was this same color.

1969 Coronet 500, 383 magnum....mine was yellow with green interior and green vinyl top.
Very odd color combo but all original. Bought from original owner in Chattanooga TN and rescued from sitting in a carport where it had sat for 16 yrs. I messed around with it, got it running, and drove it home.
The Coronet came in several trim levels, 440 and 500 being the designation not engine size.
The 383 powered Superbee was based on the 440, a lower optioned car, and the 440 powered R/T was based on the 500 trim level. Besides coming standard with bucket seats and console shifter, the 500 itself is recognized by the wide lower body side molding, and vertical grill divider and '500' markings of course.

Ok!

I finally got some of my (ancient) old cars scanned

The black car.My first car, a 1970 Triumph GT6+ purchased in 1983
The purple heap. The first build..I wrecked the 70' GT6 and bought a beat rolling chassis 1969 Triumph GT6 ,rebuilt the engine and swapped all the good parts off the 70 car. In typical Brit car fashion, some modification and fabrication required

The yellow car pictured with the red car. 1969 Austin Healy Sprite. Purchased shortly after the 69 GT6 build was done. $500 and I was a multi car owner at 17, which was good as I could always be sure one of them would actually run. Sold the Sprite for $1500 some time later and spent the dough rebuilding/replacing suspension parts (rotoflex couplings FTL!) on the red car. I I still regret selling that car

Grantri
01-08-2009, 07:15 AM
and a couple more

The white car. 1976 MGB. The red car was killed by a moron in an early 70's Tbird, after a short stint with the worst car imaginable (80 something Renault Alliance) I bought the B. It was my ride all through college. Sold it for much needed cash & bought a motorcycle

The second yellow car. 1977 Triumph Spitfire. Found it in a junkyard in deplorable condition, felt sorry for it and dragged it home. It needed EVERYTHING and took about a year ( and way more time and money than it was ever worth) to put together.I ended up putting nearly 300K on this car through several engines. It threw its last rod shortly after I got married and I parted it out for pretty good $$,

Speaking of money pits.......
The worst cars I have ever owned are as follows....

Volkswagon Rabbit. Huge POS moneypit from hell. So much so that I will NEVER own another VW of any kind and have resisted any and all temptations to even consider one.
My experience with Beetles was the same...and should have been a warning.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3032/2952649873_d0c0c49429.jpg?v=0

Pontiacs...bad luck for me. My company had an 84 Pontiac Bonneville that went 300k without one single issue. I bought the identical car and with less then 20k it turned into a giant steaming pile of dung. I happily traded it for a Toyota 4x4 pickup...THRILLED to be rid of it!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3208/2754837018_fb146185c7.jpg

And...a red 1965 Pontiac GTO. A very cool looking car but painfully slow for a muscle car and a money pit. 389 tripower or 4bbl...I had both setups. Neither was worth a crap.
I lost 3k on the car....BUT the proceeds from ditching it bought me a really rare Dodge that I recouped the 3k loss...plus 5k more. More on that car later. ;)
The GTO went to a friend of my brothers who still owns it. Its been through 3 motors and now has a 421 Tripower which 'supposedly' runs strong. My money says my 440 68 R/T would still eat it for lunch and not even burp.

I almost forgot...haha..another HUGE moneypit from hell....
Dodge Caravan/Plymouth Voyager!! Holy sh#@! What junkers!!
I was travelling in one when the trans blew (TYPICAL)...cost 2k and
related motels etc to get back on the road. Chrysler clearly demostrated that they could go
from making one of the best automatic transmissions in history, the 727 Torqueflight HD, to perhaps one
of the worst....which they continued cranking out year after year!
Like a dumbass I owned 3 of these before swearing off them FOREVER!!!
My wife finally became convinced of their sheityness after the vacation from hell. haha

One car I owned fairly recently and should have kept was a 1969 Dodge Dart GTS (GT Sport) 440.
These cars are extremely rare, only about 30 are registered in the GTS registry and according to the foremost Mopar authority on original cars some 60 are 'known to exist', many void of their original numbers matching drive train as they were used in drag racing.

The 440 GTS was born out of the factory built 383 magnum GTS offered in 1968. "Mr Norm" of Grand Spaulding Dodge did a 440 magnum conversion on some new 383 cars at their dealership, as a dealer added 'option'. After Chrysler got wind of this they decided to do them in 69. Cars and engines were built w/ matching numbers with special engine code M (hence theyre known as M code cars) and then shipped seprately to Hurst Performance where fab and install (think shoehorn here) of the 440 magnum engine was done. Special exhaust manifolds unique to 440 A bodies were required. They were then offered through Dodge dealers as an optional package.

Mine was exactly like the yellow one pictured on the right, dog dish hubcaps and all.

http://www.geocities.com/gts69reg/3McodesattheNats.jpg

Yellow, black bumble bee stripe, black interior, bucket seats, and HD 727 torqueflight w/ console shifter, mated to an 8 3/4 diff w/ 3:55 posi. All 440 Darts were automatic. All had no power options. No PS parts would fit with the 440.
Mine was all original, all numbers matching, which in this car would be the 'holy grail' of Darts, second only to the Hemi Darts...of which only 50 were made. My info indicates that around 640 total units were made in 68-69, between Mr Norm and Mopar. There remain VERY few survivors.

As my very first car was a Dart I have a special fondness of these boxy 'little' cars.
This car ranks as #1 in my long list of cars that I would like to have kept. It truly was a once in a lifetime possession that I will never be able to duplicate. I have watched for these at Barret Jackson but havent seen one. The closest I have seen was a 68 Hemi Dart which brought $350k or thereabouts and a 69 Barracuda 440 (also done at the same time by Hurst) which brought 150k as I recall.

I 'stole' this car from a man going through an extremely bitter divorce. He needed money badly, that was the only reason I got it. He was a Dart freak who raced these cars and had looked for one to restore for 10 yrs. The fellow I sold it to had been looking for 6-7 yrs and bought mine instantly when I offered it.

Yes that car looks very close. Mine was a solid white with blue pinstripes.
The doors on that thing weighed as much as my Miata.

I like those trucks too. It's really cool that you old fellas got to grow up and experience so many cars from the "gas and metal are so cheap we'll go wild" era.

I had one of these in black...89 Probe GT 2.2 turbo (Mazda engine)
Very strong running and under rated car IMHO
I would buy one now if I found a clean unmolested example.

i know of one sitting in front of a barn in conyers. needs a little work but can probably get it cheap cheap cheap.

Those Probe GT turbos were pretty stout little cars for what they were... I remember the old man test driving a red one... we got that sucker airborne over the rail road tracks near the Ford dealership. Got it back and it was smoking like hell. Come to find out someone had left off the oil filler cap... we just closed the hood and walked away slowly.

I agree. Nice torque and mid range power. I hammered mine for well over 100k with nary an issue. (Yey Mazda!)
The advertised HP was well under reality too.
