On Saturday, Dec. 27, the local Triumph club will hold the annual Polar Bear Run. You can find a link at www.gatriumph.com. This is open to anyone with an interesting car, and I'm sure more than a few will be there. The Miata's are welcome to join in, but will probably be asked to run in the back as "support" vehicles. Unlike the infamous "no picnic baskets" runs this will be rather sedate, with photo ops at the covered bridge stops planned for this run. But you can always find fun slaloming around the parts that fall off the old british cars. The drivers meeting will be at 9am, held in the Outback parking lot at the end of Stone Mountain Freeway. We will go from there through a bunch of interesting country roads, through some covered bridges, and end up in Athens for lunch. I will be driving my Mini (assuming it will start) and I'm offering up the X1/9 to a qualified driver. There are usually quite a few interesting cars to see, so come on out. Hope to see some of y'all there.
Oh kewl. If I wasen't gonna be outta town for Christmas, I'd definately go along.

I wouldn't mind driving the X1/9 for you. Don't worry, I don't drive like a dumbass and will treat the car with respect. ;)

I wanted to go to this, but knew the Miata would not be running in time. :(

We are planning to bring both cars to this run.
After all those years watching parts falling off my Brit cars in my reaview mirror it should be fun to see em hit the road in front of me .

I would love to drive the Fiat. That was the car I really wanted in high school but my dad being a WWII vet would let me have no part of any "ferrin" cars.
If I wasn't out of town I would love to do it.

Well..............I offered the X on this thread too late. I hope y'all will forgive me. A couple of weeks ago at a meeting of the old fart Miata owners I offered the drive to one of the guys, who had driven one in the foggy distant past. I remembered this after I made the post. So I called him today, and he wants to drive it. So I am obliged to him first. He sounded a little excited, I'm sure he'll have fun. It's for sale so it will be good for the general public, and other enthusiast to see it out and about. I would drive it, but for this event I want to drive the Mini. And NO ONE drives the Mini but me. Well, ok, I might let Alec drive it for short distances. He is getting his own soon, so he can have fun with it. Too bad it won't be across the pond 'til February.

Having seen the said X19 in this thread...I must say, its mighty clean. Usually when or if I see one of those its total turd bucket rusting in the weeds, or barely running. Very cool to have a well preserved example of an unusual little car. Hopefully after the run there will be some pics for all to enjoy....including other cool rides as well.

The run is tomorrow. The weather looks to be just about perfect, starting out cloudy and low 50's finish sunny and close to 70. So y'all come on out and drop the tops. It's gonna be a fun run.

Can you plz confirm the meeting point address?
I assume it's this Outback:
1525 E. Park Place Blvd, Stone Mountain GA 30087
Georgia Cracker
12-26-2008, 08:03 AM
That is the correct address. For more info go to www.gatriumph.com and follow the link for the Polar Bear Run. You can print your own directions from there, or get a copy at the drivers meeting tomorrow morning. The directions show it to be a 131.7 mile drive from start to finish in Athens, which will include several covered bridges we will drive through or walk to.

dude, it's an old british car meet. How can you even say that?! They're worse than old german electronics! I'd figure Jesse's car would be MORE qualified than the rest of us for that simple reason

Yeah, youre probably right...driving without lights (as provided by Lucas) is one thing, but Jesses car is more likely to be on fire.

LOL fair enough. At least the Brit cars can use his car as rolling illumination for when their Lucas electronics take a dump

Another Polar Bear done. Thanks to those that came out, hope you got to see some cars you haven't seen before. George Forster of the Triumph club did his usual good job of picking the route and producing thorough instructions for everyone, I think we only missed one turn. And that was my fault. Pics of the cars at the covered bridges will be up at www.gatriumph.com soon for anyone interested. If I can figure out how I'll pilfer a few and post them here.

George, thanks again for a great day. We really need to do this again in the future. I owe you a couple rounds of Stella at the MellowMushroom. If you have George Fosters email, I'd appreciate it if you could send it my way. I'd also like to thank him, I'm sure he put a lot of hard work into today's event.

Thanks for posting the pics. I don't know if you got a good look at the 911 in the covered bridge pic, but it was a 1967 911S, just about perfect. I had forgotten what a 911 is supposed to sound like. What a magnificent mechanical clatter and whine. And the Martini Porsche was quite appropriate for the dirt roads we were on.

We ran with that 911S P-Car for a time....although he 'slightly' pulled us on the straights :D

I wish I had been quick enough to get a shot of the guy in the Spitfire offering roadside assistance to ya Chris......
Seems everyone got some shots of the Allard.. I did some googling on those things yesterday and best I can figure is that car is a late 40's L Type with a 4 litre flathead (ford) V8 . Pretty rare cars and it was cool to see one out and about
