quick question, weld in or bolt in cage?

Either. Bolts can fall out or welds can break. Personally, I'd go with the bolt in.
(Don't anyone start this into another "cage in a street car" thread either!)

I think it depends on the future plans. Is this for a race/track car or is it a street car that may just do a few track days? I personally think welding is stronger and better in the long run. Sure welds can break but not nearly as easy as bolts/nuts come loose.
If it is for a permanent cage I say have it welded in. If you plan to sell the car in the near future just bolt it so that it can be removed if needed.

Bolt-in is going to be easier and just as strong. If you're that concerned about bolts coming loose, give them a quick spray of undercoating from a can. With all the people running around with Hard Dog/Boss Frog equipment, I have yet to hear of anything coming loose.

Weld in is strongest. And SCCA and NASA don't allow bolt in cages anymore, so if you plan on tracking it....
I have nothing against bolt in.
And I plan on DD'ing my car with a cage. As I have before lol.

How about both?
A weld in and a bolt in at the same time, and well the rule change settles it, weld in it is.

i say bolt in! what happens if you decide to get another miata and want to swap the bar over! easier with a bolt in! really really hard to undo a weld! trust me, i weld for a living!

I think he is planning on running events with it, so he has to weld it in.

Instead of undercoating, use locktite red, will not come loose unless you apply heat.
Undercoating is messy and not designed to prevent bolts from coming loose.

I used loctite on mine. But I also used spray-on undercoat as recommended by Hard Dog so that the exposed holes would not rust. Did it for my frame rail install too. It's not messy if you do it right.

Either way, IF HE IS RACING, MUST WELD IN. Bolt in is not legal.

Works for me then. However, you die in a horrible manner, so keep that in mind. :)

Well it was actually a funny from an old movie that I was referring to but as for the real Spartacus yes he died a gruesome death, but then how many Roman males actually died from natural causes in those days?
Oh and I do realize that Sparta is an ancient Greek city.
