Let's hear your opinion...

Its the most fun car i own, but i havent really had long enough to form a really good opinion yet. Based on friends cars thought, they are excellent.

I don't like susceptibility to cupping in the road and the lack of presence on the highway. But that's part of package of a small aggressive roadster.

I don't like that it didn't come with an all aluminum V8 from the factory.

the lack of options from the factory unlike our counter parts in Japan or even in Europe.

The place meet of the factory cup holder on the NA. Straight up pointless if you have a 5-spd.

Lack of a turbo charger or rotory from the factory, well in the early models.(not encluding the BBK cause that just rare on its own)

My biggest issue with my own miata was finding out that all BRG come with hardtops from the factory and learning that the old owner sold the top before I got the car.

one of the things i love the most about the NA is the ability to to break the rear end lose! i have proven so many people wrong! everybody says i dont have the power to do it! i say **** that! that and i love being able park in places most vehicles cant! haha :P

Mine breaks loose on azenis, whne you power out of a corner hard. well it doesnt break loose like a mustang or something, but it goes into a controllable power slide. Its enough to point the nose in the direction you need to go.

Sean, you dummy, you supposed to say what you DON'T like about your NA.

I don't like the fact that mine is not running, but I don't know if that counts.
However, in all seriousness, I agree with Bryan's statement about the cupholders, but usually I have a bottled drink, which I rest in between my leg and the console. But that's really my only complaint, otherwise I love the car. My girlfriend will complain that it rides too rough, but to me, the NBs are far too refined and don't provide as much feedback to the driver.

If I had to pick something I didn't like about my NA, it was the factory front bumper. I think they could have done something a little more aggressive. I also think they could have made the cars a bit lighter. Oh and forged aluminum control arms like the RX-7. I thought the interior styling on the 94-97 was good and didn't really need anything.

^ Agreed. They should have had something like the Racing Beat bumper as OEM. Those bumpers are hella gorgeous. Been considering what one would look like on my car either with my flares or larger flares.

I got rather pissy with a frozen slider pin on a rear caliper this weekend.

I wish the driver's seat would go back about 2 more inches. An additional 50-60 HP and an overdrive gear would be nice too.

Yea an overdrive would be great or even if they had just used the 5th gear from the FC RX7 as the miata cause it is a much better match for highway speeds and still useable with the tiny 1.6 and 4:30 rear end.

What I don't like about my NA right now is that it isn't even close to track ready and I just don't have the funds right now to make it so. All in due time though.

I really like early NAs. In fact I much prefer them to anything made since. The simplicity is the primary key. Its my own opinion that NAs peaked in 92-3, and then slid 'downhill' from there...for a 1.8 car I prefer a 94...culminating with the NB...which I find to be...well...generally yuk. Wanna buy mine?? Trade for a nice NA!!
Overall however if I could change one thing about any of them, 1.8s included, it would be to add stock HP. Although very nimble I find all of them to be underpowered in stock form.
Many years of driving 400-500hp V8s is likely the culprit. ;)

Hey im no dummy, but let me do this right! what i hate about my NA is deff the cup holder location! who the **** thought of that! what a genius! and the other think i deff hate is when it rain i have to ride with the windows down to keep my windows from fogging up on me! that really pisses me off the most! but other than that i love my NA!

jester911

I agree about the bogus cup holder. I found the factory ashtray in the trunk that takes its place so I cleaned it up and removed the center piece that holds the cigarette and now it is the perfect coin holder.

Speaking of that you should see the way my old Pcar controls are.
There are literally three different sets of controls for heating a/c.
The worst part is other than getting your feet burned off none of the rest of it works worth a damn.

This was written on a Pcar board and will give you an idea of how well their ventilation system works.

Subject: RE: Heat Control FAQ for Pooschey

Q: I just bought a Pooschey 911 and can't figure out how to make the heater work -- or the fresh air either. Can you help me?

A: Sure, I can help you. The ventilation system requires that you operate 4 levers to make it work. 3 of the levers are on the dash, and the other is between the seats on newer Pooscheys there are 2 levers between the seats).

The top lever on the dash actually does several different things (remember, it is a fiendish German device, just like the rest of the car). Pushing it to the middle opens the dust ports leading to the windshield (see below for operation of fogging machine and oil mist spray device). Pushing it to the
right past the middle also activates the rattling noise-maker device. There are three loudness levels to choose from. Pushing the lever all the way to the left is used to jam the cable so unauthorized personnel cannot operate
any of the devices above. The lever also enables the automatic heat exchanger signalling device -- when opening it spews rust particles on the windshield, you should replace the heat exchangers. Also, if opening it causes you to immediately turn blue or purple (not just hair, but skin
color) and become unconscious, you (or your estate) should definitely replace the heat exchangers.

The second lever from the top controls the lights on the White House Xmas tree. Move it to the middle to turn on the lights, and all the way to the right to fire 4500 Megatons of Nukes at Iraq.

The bottom lever on the dash is used to replace the windshield when it becomes scratched or pitted with rock chips. It also determines how much hot air goes to your feet as opposed to your head. For example, let's say the engine is completely warmed up and the hot air is burning your feet. If it's a cold day, you can flip the lever to the other side and shoot hot air onto the windshield so it cracks and shatters. Then call your insurance company (you do have insurance, don't you?)

The lever between the seats controls the oil mist spray device. When the engine is warmed up, this lever allows you to blow oil mist into the passenger cabin. Using the top dash lever lets you select whether you want the oil mist to coat the inside of the windshield or to just circulate around your feet. On a newer Pooschey, you have 2 levers on the floor
between the seats. The left hand lever lets you open the left side vents which are aimed so they burn the feet of the person in the right hand seat, and the right hand lever lets you open the right side vents which are aimed so they burn the feet of the person in the left hand seat. Of course, each
lever will also burn just the tops of the feet of the person in the other seat. If you are driving in the rain (or even stopped in the rain after the car has broken down), these levers also let you spray a fog of water vapor on the windshield, so no one can see in or out of the car -- sort of like privacy glass.

That way to complicated just to have comfort while your diving! good thing about a miata is keep em rolled up in the cold run the heater a lil bit. and in the summer keep the top down for a/c but dont get caught in the rain!

Oh, you smoke in the car. That exasterbates the foggyness on the windows because the fine particles from smoke stick to the windows...which sucks up moisture in the air. Clean your windows with a regular window cleaner and then wax them (inside and out). Also, NEVER recirculate air in the car when using the heat. That will cause fogging quickly since hot air holds more moisture than cold air, and when that hot moist air contacts a cold window, it condenses. Make sure the vent selector is to the far right lol. You have to be doing something wrong if you can't get the fog to go away, esp. if it's inside the car

I used to smoke in my 99, but I always had the windows down and the air bringing fresh air in, moking in a car and using recirculating air will make the smoke particles stick to everything in the ventilation system and will smell like *** for a long time....no matter what you do.

For me, it's the horsepower thing. The Miata could have been so much more fun if it had come with a small turbo from the factory (wasn't the engine originally designed as a turbo anyway?). Plus, it would have lent itself a little better to the aftermarket for tuning and massaging a little more power out.

Then again, if they had come with turbos they would probably all be ragged out now!

A bit more horsepower would be nice and I would love a bit more trunk room incase I wanted to drive it on a trip.
