This is my buddy in his 05 F430, and a 200+lb passenger filming... 2nd gear roll, to 140mph. My car is stock LS-1 making 314rwhp, 2432lbs. When we got done he said he was going to trade his car in on 20 of mine LOL!!!

Wow I really expected the Miata to pull a LOT harder. I'd take the F430 still for sure.

Is that 314 crank hp? I expected a bit more too. F430 vs 314chp miata should be a pretty fair drag, if the 430 doesn't overheat, catch fire, and burn to the ground (common problem with the car).

I just quoted what the guy on CR said... So IDK.

How many have seen one catch on fire in front of them?

I saw a 550 and a Gallardo right after they burned, but never seen the horror of one actually on fire.

what was the cause of the fire?

The Gallardo was rear ended by a dump truck and the 550 had wrapped itself around a metal phone pole.

I have yet to see one in person have a mechanical issue like that, and I am around them quite a bit and associate with many owners. In fact the F430 from what I have seen and heard seems to be a fairly reliable down to earth Ferrari and can be daily driven with ease.

LOL that'll do it....
My Miata would probably do the same.

Which brings me to the point of me questions. I too have been around them a fair amount and have never seen one have more than a minor mishap. The two rotornut saw after they burnt were due to driver error, so why be so harsh on the ferrari when there is no real evidence to back it up outside of some magazine saying they catch on fire.

To clarify Ben's point, he wasn't being harsh towards Ferrari, he was making a valid point concerning the F430. They had a huge problem with this when they first came out.
The F430 has displayed a notable engine irradiation problem in its early model years. This issue regards an engine-overheating flaw which has a tendency to cause a fire in the engine bay, usually leading to the destruction of the car.

Something isn't heat shielded as well as it should be, catches fire, and fire envelopes the entire car. It's not an urban legend. I think Eric's videos demonstrate that nicely. :)

I posted the two videos I found. If you do any research on the F430, you will find that the quote I posted comes up numerous times. Ferrari had a recall on the problem for the early years of the model. Turns out usually the culprit was high heat and a leaking oil line.

I wonder if Ferrari replaced the burned F430's?

Tons of cars have issues when first released, I guess EVERY new GTR will blow a tranny. We knew about the problem, that's why I said it was fixed.
Ferrari's aren't for attn whores, they actually perform.

Understood. However, this all started when Ben was called out for pointing out a known flaw in the F430. How about we just let this issue rest now?
Oh, and Ferrari's definitely perform, but the majority of the ones you see in person (that are not on a track) are owned by attention whores. Go to one C&O, you'll see a very good case in point. Even funnier is the guy that rents a different one each time and shows up.

I agree with Eric, although the car may perform (I never said it doesn't) the typical consumer is buying it for the image.

Really, you're upset that Eric only found 2 videos of F430s burning on youtube? That's not enough evidence to support the Ferarri confirmed fact that the (early) 430 has a problem in the engine bay such that it can catch fire, typically resulting in complete inceneration? *****, please.
I'd wager that more 430 ferarris have burned to the ground than miatas. And miatas probably outnumber the 430 by 10000:1.

I used to think Ferrari's were for image but no more. Those things are wicked performance vehicles and every time I see one in person I get a tingly feeling down low.
wow i just realised i'm in my pajamas and need to go to class! to be continued!

I watched TopGear last night and they happen to have a special edition F430, don't remember the exact name, but Ferrari admitted that it turned faster lap times on their own (Ferrari's) track then the Enzo.

Ferrari surely has had some issues with the 430 but it and the 360 are much more reliable than previous models. The numbers of these cars on the race track bears this out.
Besides that, Ferrari doesn't make an ugly car. Not to mention the music the engines make.

The only Ferrari I think is ugly is the new California.
A Ferrari with a Tubi exhaust is pure sex. :D

Ferrari needs to work harder if by just putting a LS1 in a miata can keep up with it...

No that's sad I thought the Miata would walk it lol.
I would take the Ferrari over ANY Miata ANY day. Overall a much better car then a Miata could dream of being.
I don't know...I'd rather spend the 100K on actually making my penis bigger than to drive around in a ferrari thinking its bigger.

I agree with simon on this one. Having driven miatas for 18 years, I love em. But Im around Ferrari's on a weekly basis. 550 575 360 430 Challenge car. One of my clients races them, just moved here from South AFrica. He has a team, Engineer etc. Its amazing what those guys do. I can only dream of being there one day. those are works of art. by no means is it a drag car and when you get into the culture and the owners, its a totally different beast. wanna feel poor? hang around those guys, the complete brake kit for the challenge car is about 16" in diameter and cost about $12000.
