So, it has come time for me to start adding some mods to my altima. first i'm going to add a short shifter because my knuckles a so scared and bruised from hitting the windscreen when shifting into third.
anyways, i need some suggestions for what to do to my suspension. i'm on a rather tight budget and have a very limited knowledge of all things suspension. basically i want to get something that will boost the performance and cost not that much.

What kind of Altima are you working on? Year and engine definitely help. As far as cheap performance, there really isn't any. Sure you could strip the car bare, but the weight saved compared to the hassle? Not sure if it would be worth it.

Cheapest way to improve handling would probably be sway bars. Best way, and not necessarily all that expensive either, is a good set of tires.

It's a punchy motor. In terms of handling I think an ebay short shifter would help, and I'm still debating what sort of lowering method to go with for you. The ebay coilovers are really cheap, they lower it and stiffen it. BUT they are universal and will require us to mod and fabricate, swear and drink when we install them. A rear sway bar would cut down on body roll quite a bit at the back, the only issue then comes with it being front wheel drive and losing the back end would be absolutely horrible with a tight swaybar.
I'm checking out the Eibach lowering springs, and the H&R springs at the moment. They should be better matched to your stock struts rather than the coilovers which would make the ride feel quite bouncy and harsh.
We should also look for a junker Altima with rear disc brakes and then get you some nice pads. So yeah,
-short shifter
-lowering springs/sway bar
-disc brakes
-pads
And you'll be set mate. We could even throw a flowmaster exhaust on the end to let it breathe and shout a bit more. The motor sounds nice as it is!

This is the best I've found for springs:

Now I'm almost positive there must be a better website out there than this. Anyone got ideas on performances shops?

Really no need for coilovers unless you're interested in changing ride height for some reason, or corner weighting the car, which obviously isn't going to be a concern. The drop springs you mentioned should be fine.

Well we're not talking about megans but the crappy sleeves. He does want it lowering a bit. The Eibach's will be a safer bet.

yeah, that would be badass, but at the end of the day i realized that this car isn't what i want. it's gonna get me through college and whatnot, but as soon as i can afford to i'm getting a miata. so best not put too much money into the altima and wait for the roadster of my dreams.
