Is there any way to tell a working oil pressure gauge from the non-working ones , someone said that if the gauge itself is marked with numbers at the hash marks its a real working gauge and the non-working gauge only show two letters H and L and no markings at the hash marks. Getting ready to mod my 96 to make it a working gauge system, I plan on using a VDO sender 360-009, replacing the current switch type sensor. Not sure about the cluster gauge, and what has to be done. I've read about the damping and resistor changes, but then came across this gauge from a miata, not sure what year it came from but was marked with numbers and lower portion of gauge marked lb/in.

Your solution: Simply install a 90-94 oil gauge into your cluster, and 90-94 sender on your engine. Plug and play. Plug and play. No wiring, no BS.
Why screw with the aftermarket crap. :)

I have the setup available for anyone interested.

I agree that is simple. My question still is : How can you tell the working gauge from the non working one, the one I came across has numbers on it, mine only has the letters H nd L, then it if true numbers equal working gauge all I need is the working sender, which I would be interested in. Tx.

Real oil pressure gauges are just that..for example I just put a (real) mechanical oil pressure gauge on my pickup-c10 and it has a oil feed line to the gauge and this is the only way to truly tell what the engine block/oil pickup pressure is. It reads 5 1/2 pds stronger than the dummy light(electronic) with sender did. But I was running down the road and I felt some veryyyy hot liquid on my leg and looked down and it was leaking oil so thats why it easier to use a sending unit/electronic gauge. There is no fail other than unaccurate oil pressure reading.

Fake gauge = H & L
'Real" gauge = numbers

I agree but the electronic is sure better than the current idiot light, in this case- an indicator gauge that is no more than a light turning on, by the time the light/ indicator is on its too late some indication is better than none, even if its off some.

PM me about a sensor, looks like I'm half way there. TX
