I can't even describe what it sounds like, but it's coming from the driver's side. It only makes the noise while I'm actually driving, not in idle. Sometimes you can even hear the noise like slow down as my tires slow down, again, i only hear the noise on the driver's side. It makes this loud high pitched screeching type noise sometimes late at night when I'm leaving my bf's house and my car's been in the cold in his driveway for a few hours. so whatever's making the noise, get's screechy if it's been in the cold for a bit. the screeching goes away after i've been driving for a little bit [the screeching stops of course when i come to a stop]. then it just goes back to the duller noise. i really can't even explain how it sounds but it's getting annoying :/ it can't be my new wheels, because it started making this sound before i got them. ideas? :/

Its the hamster in the engine compartment, he is tired, and needs food and water

 damn hamsters!!
and no I really don't think it's a belt :/ I can't tell if it's coming from the engine bay on the driver's side or from my wheel well. i want to think it's coming from the wheel well since the noise slows down along with my tires.

Check and make sure that the brake dust shields are not rubbing on anything. The retainers that hold the brake pads in place may be bad or missing and allowing the pad to rub against the disc. Could be the wear indicator on the pad, the indicators on the van were scraping when cold and at low speed, but when they got warm from driving they'd stop.

Hmm alright I'll check that out tomorrow. The noise doesn't stop unless I'm stopped. The screeching only happens for a little bit if it's been sitting in the cold for awhile, that eventually dies down, but it just reverts back to the regular annoying noise haha.

When is the last time the brake pads were replaced? Sounds just like what the van was doing and because it went away I thought it wasn't the pads. I was wrong. lol

There's a little metal clip that Eric mentioned that squeels like crazy when your pads are going bad. Mine wore down to this and it drove me insane.
Autozone pads FTW. They aren't the greatest but you can't beat a lifetime warranty on something that wears like pads.

^Yup. Iz called wear indicator and that's it's job.

So the lesson gentlemen, is if a girl approaches you, and is squeeking, her pad needs to be changed. Meaning she has poor hygiene, and that's nasty.

 lmao this thread is hilarious! Win all the way hahahah:lol:
how much are 4 autozone pads? And the thing is though, is there's only squeaking sometimes, otherwise it's just this constant dull sound, it sounds like it's spinning with the wheel. Like a whooshing grinding noise maybe? Lol sorry for my really pathetic girly descriptions

I mean if it's not pads, it would either be the brake shield, or the wheel bearing  I've never heard of those going out on Miatas, but anything is possible.. If you never replaced the pads it's probably time you did anyway. I believe a pair for the fronts are like $30 and the rears are $25.

Idk about yall but i woudl go advance pads before autozone never liked autozones parts allways been junk to me.
if you don't mind spending a little extra, I just bought front and rear akebono pads at 35 each, and front and rear bembro solid rotors at about 30 each from my carquest store. An employee store discount goes a long way...lol
I'm with you on that.
