View Full Version : It pays to talk at red lights....

So a couple months ago I am cruising through Dacula...and I come out on 316 and a guy pulls up along side me at the red light and starts talking out his window. He asks me if I am interested in a Miata hardtop. I say I might be depending on price. Before the light turns green he jumps out of his car and hands me his card.
Later I went to call him but couldnt find the card. I looked but to no avail. This week while going through my wallet I found his card...duhhh. So after a phone call and a quick trip to his house last evening I now have a very reasonably priced black hardtop with headliner, defrost, & pigtail. It has a few nicks on it but is very solid overall. I have owned many hardtops and usually end up selling them...but time will tell.
Oh yeah...and the person he got this from was just going to throw it out...imagine that.

Such was the case with the hardtop I got.
Good score though!

Gah hardtops being thrown away is worse than throwing seals in the rubbish.

Nice score. I love my hard top. No, I seriously make love to it on a regular basis.
Just kidding.
But not really.

Good score....
I'm amongst those that dont want a HT.. Had one on my Spitfire years ago and I always ended up pissed when we would get a 60F+ day in the middle of winter and I was stuck with the HT bolted on,
I wouldnt hesitate to buy one at a deal from a guy at a red light and sell it for the going rate though

Haha..I pretty much agree. I find them to be 'in the way' for the most part...and subsequently have sold every one I have ever owned, even if I got them for $100 or for free.

They do look really nice but once you experience top down there's no going back. I love the feeling of nothing but air around you.

another vote for one who does not care to have a hardtop...ever. Besides, if I wanted one, that'd require me buying a different rollbar... and i'm NOT up for pulling my BA BossFrog out and putting in a HDHCDDM2HT.

I love my hardtop for 3 reasons, winter (makes the car so much nicer), rain (because the seals on my softtop need replacing), and when I have to park somewhere I don't want to get my softtop slashed.

or you could buy a hard top...and amaff how did you manage to do that and keep the interior? I want to see your car and learn these ways!

no a/c, no p/s, 5.5lb cat-back, lightweight header, lightweight seats (could be lighter, but the class has a 25lb seat minimum), light-ish wheels, light-ish shocks (aluminum bodied koni 28 series shocks would shave another couple lbs)... and that's all I can remember as far as weight savings. Nothing too crazy.

I'm with you on this one, and yes I know, I own two convertibles but I just like the solid structure feeling of having a HT. I usually look at the weather in advance so if I know it's going to be nice out the next day, I'll just take the HT off the night before, really not that big of a hassle.

I need to find a hadtop. Really not a fan of convertibles. I just like small, quick cars.
