This is a replacement vinyl top with three plastic windows, for better visibility, I guess. Is anyone familiar with this top as to service, fit, etc.

Thanks!

Moss used to sell them, sort of looks like an old Triumph top. I don't think anyone is still selling them new that I know of. They seem to be of good quality, I just don't know that I would put a vinyl top with a plastic window on when you can get glass windows so cheaply now. my .02.

I've seen them on Ebay a couple of times.

The side windows will rapidly wear and fail. Just like the MB tops of similar construction.

Thanks for the replys. The top is on a car I am interested in. I needed some help with what I would be facing as to the top's service. An out-of-state Miata friend said to avoid 'em.

I don't think I would avoid the 'right' car just because it had this top on it. Just be aware that it's something that will need to be addressed at some point. A cheap replacement top starts about $200, and goes up from there depending on options.

I have this top on my car, and love it. I dont have a "blind spot." My back window is the one that failed, the side ones are fine, and I'm pretty sure the only reason the back one failed is because it was never unzipped, it broke horizontally where it had been folded.

I had one on my 96 and didn't have a problem with the side windows, but you need to be a little more careful about what temperatures you raise/lower the top. The ability to see better was nice though.

It looks from the pictures that it's not a zippered window. If so then I agree with Ben and Mike. I wouldn't avoid the car, but I would realize that the lack of zipper will cause it to fail faster than a zippered window. It's also more sensitive to temperature. Just keep in mind it has a shorter shelf life.

Back window on mine was zippered.

I had this style top on my '97. I liked the better visibility and less blind spot area. I never had a problem with the windows failing. I'd have another one and wouldn't let this deter me from buying a Miata with it on it.

Back window on mine was zippered.

I'm pretty sure I've seen both types. It's hard to say for certain, but in the picture I don't see where that one is zippered.

I've seen both versions, but the non-zip is probably the only one still made, if they're still being made at all. I had one on my original '91 for about a year until an errant tree branch fell through it. Never had any issues with the side windows failing, though I was always careful putting it down in cold weather. Warm weather didn't phaze it a bit.
