Ya so i was driving today, and went to downshift into 4th gear and it wouldnt go, it just started grinding. It drives fine once in gear, but it wont disengage. I checked the hydrolics and they are fine, so im pretty convinced that its either the throwout bearing or something mechanical in the clutch. so, i was wondering if anybody has connections with any manufacturers? Im looking for either an oem replacement or a stage one, or such. I dont want a clutch that will chatter. Thanks guys

Are you suuuuuure it's not the slave cylinder? My car did that exact same thing and that's all it was.

ya i mean i got under it and had someone pump the petal, and it has travel. I mean the slave cylinder has a little moisture on it, but i still have plenty of fluid, and the clutch has the same amount of pressure. When it first happened, i thought that maybe the end of the slave cylinder slipped off the fork, but it didnt.

Considering the price of a slave cylinder and the mileage of your car I recommend you changing that first. It sounds a lot like what happened to mine and Tommy's. Mine even looked okayish initially down there, but once I changed it all my problems went away.

^ Exactly. If we hadn't just changed the one on Jack's car right before mine broke under the same circumstances, I would have gone chasing gremlins for a long time. The slave looked perfectly normal from the outside.

Just rebuilt the slave on my buddy Sean's car since he was having the same problems. It was the cure. :)

Gotta be worth the $40 Tyler. I can help out when I'm back in Athens although I'm sure you could get your dad or Taylor to help out.

probably slave cylinder, appx $16 for a rebuild kit. next suspect is the master. symptoms do not describe bearing issue.

probably slave cylinder,,,,, next suspect is the master.

Ditto.
Alot of times when the slave is bad it still moves...just not far enough.
If there is any fluid inside the boot...its bad.
Masters can do this do. BTDT.

As an FYI...for regular low hp normally aspiriated street use a "value" clutch kit from Mazda is about $100...and made by Exedy. They work fine.

ya, heres an update, i replaced the slave cylnder, which was leaking a little anyway, and it still didnt fix it. So i can go to the mazda dealership and get an exedy clutch for 100 bucks? I saw an exedy stage one for like 180 i think.

Order one from Trussville Mazda, Montgomery Mazda etc They sell online and by credit card.
Local dealerships are usually higher priced and wont ship you the parts.
Or, you can always go Ebay with whatever clutch you want.

Dont rule out the master cylinder being the problem either. I'd change that.

Did you bleed the clutch system out?

Do the clutch master next.

Whatever dealer is closest to you should have the valueline 1.6 kit at $100 or less.

hahaha, i checked the master cylinder and everything, its not a hydrolic problem, its something mechanical, either it spun a throwout bearing or a spring came out of the disk hub and got stuck. Ill def check out those dealers though, thanks. The tranny is coming out in the morning.
