What R compounds (autox) for 15x6 nb rims?

Figured I'd ask here.

I'm looking to start running r compounds next AutoX season and was wondering what would be a good cost conscience tire for this. I was looking at the nt01 cause of the cost, but I don't think I could get enough heat into them with autox. I know there has been a plethora of new autox tires that have come out lately but I've been too busy to keep up with them.

I'd run these on my 15x6 rims that I have azenis on currently. What do y'all think?

What price range are you going to try and stay under?

I'd get the widest tires you could fit on there. Probably a 225 V710, though that seems like a really tall tire (225/50). In the Kumho you really only have that and the 205/50. Hoosier has the 225/45ZR15 that should work. And the BFGoodrich R1 also comes in a 205/50 and 225/50 sizes.

Your best bet for some cheapie 205s is take-off tires from the road race crowd. Spec Miata goes through tons of them by themselves, not to mention the IT classes.

Question though... this sounds a lot like a CSP car. Why the skinny wheels? The choices would be much more viable with another couple inches of wheel width.

Trying to keep it under 150 a tire. I've actually got two sets of rims, a 14x6 set and a 15x6 set that I could use.

I didn't say short, I said skinny. 6" is a narrow wheel. You can FIT those tires on a 5" wheel, but it will be far less than ideal. I'd say road race take-offs are probably your best bet for cheapo tires.

I usually "compete" in the BMW classes so I'm not necesarly restricted to what I can run. I've already got 2 sets of rims (see above) and not looking (and couldn't squeeze past wife) at a third set. I'd love some 7 or 8" wide wheels :)

I'll have to stop by OPM and see if they have any takeoffs.

Yep. A decent 205 tire for about $100 a set should do you :)

I've got a set of 6 205/50-15 Kumho V710s sitting in the garage at the moment, four of which are mounted on 15x6's. They're pretty hard, though, and wouldn't likely get you through the whole season. They've already seen a season on my H-stock '99 Civic Si. Originally picked them up, as AMaff said, from a road race guy for $150 for all 6, in pretty decent shape. I'd definitely look into that, but if you just want some really cheap R-comps, let me know.

Sell both your sets of wheels and buy one set of 7 or 8" wheels?
