For those of you with (or those who have had) NAs with anti-lock brakes, what is your opinion of the system? Does it work well enough to leave alone or would you be happier without it? This would be for a street car that may see some light track time.

I've always been more comfortable driving cars without ABS and just finding the threshold when needed. I've even driven some cars that had the system kick in during semi-hard braking and it annoyed me because it wasn't necessary. Just trying to figure out which options I should and shouldn't consider when I go to get another Miata.

Mushy pedal feel. Do not like. Worst thing about the special editions IMHO.

Not too hard to do away with though.

Yeah, I helped Bryan eliminate and swap some of his system. Wasn't too bad. Rather than get a car and have stuff to swap, I'd like to start with one that has most everything the way I want it right off the bat. Keeps costs down and I need that right now.

Ok, so 1 large vote for no.

To me, I can live with it. Yes, the pedal is a bit mushy, and it takes forever to bleed the brake hydraulics properly, plus a couple tricks. But it hasn't really gotten in the way enough for me to consider the effort to remove it.

I liked it. It broke better than any NA i have ever driven, that is at least 10. It had some getting use to but it only activates when it locks up. I did a test in torrential rain on Azenis at 45MPH. Stopped very very quick.

:edit: this was on a 94

I am also wondering if I want it. Has anyone retrofitted this into a earlier model NA? I know you have to relocate the washer fluid bottle :P

I just looked up how to do it, it's a LOT of work, not sure if it's worth it.

I haven't driven a miata with ABS but I feel I can stop more quickly finding the threshold myself and actually letting off to allow the suspension to settle in the back for a 1/2 second.
