Toyota's new fix for the accelerator problems. They managed to come up with a really fancy description of a 'shim'.

Toyota sure has gone down the toilet in recent years.
The new Camry is crap. I know a couple people that bought them and nothing but trouble right from the get go. The old Camry's would run forever.
If I was looking at new normal passenger cars right now I'd be buying Honda.

So, the pedal sticks in the pedal stop when you go WOT, so the solution is to limit pedal travel such that you can no longer got WOT. Nice revision! borat NOT /borat

So why would Toyota fix the pedal when people are reporting that cars don't keep accelerating, it's been said they are randomly accelerating. This is a cheap way for Toyota to get the cars in to reflash the ECU (I'd be willing to bet that they'll give some excuse about needing to recalibrate the ECU for the shortened pedal travel or some BS like that).
So it went from floor mats, to pedals prematurely wearing, to pedal assemblies that are affected by heat and humidity and now to "excessive friction" caused by the pedal flexing.
4 different causes? Riiiiiiiiiight.

Actually Toyota does plan to reflash some ecus to add the throttle kill when the brake is depressed. So there will be an ecu reflash on 'some models'.
The cars in the original floor mat recall are different than the gas pedal issue. No lexus vehicles are in the gas pedal issue but they were in the floor mat recall.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are just trying to keep panic to a...minimum...don't want to recall the entire line at once

I just saw an announcement that all recalled vehicles should NOT be driven AT ALL now
US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said Wednesday morning that owners of recalled Toyotas should stop driving them immediately.
Now what is going on? It's like Toyota's version of Lost haha

Yeah the announcement was an opinion of the US transportation Secretary. Now he has changed it to you should bring your Toyota to the dealer if you're driving one of the recalled vehicles.
Also Toyota is under a new investigation of sudden accelerations focusing on electronic throttles. There is no recall but the government is leaning towards investigating this as the cause for all of these issues.
Toyota also now has two investigations into the Prius one for poor braking on bumpy or frozen surfaces (i mean come on really) and the other for a sudden brief surge of acceleration after trying to disengage the cruise control by tapping the brake (which a guy at work here complained about a few days before this became an issue).

Note the key words everyone- attempted to return. What a moron. Really? You think your local Toyota dealership is alike friggin' Wal-Mart in the sense you can just "return" your used truck? No doubt he got mad and had an "accident" because he just that stupid. I don't think the dealership will have any problem getting the money to fix the damages...from his insurance company after he refused their services and knowingly got into the truck with a known defect. Hope that dealership nails him.
Hey Eric, let's all pile in your wangon of [impending] doom and go for a ride

I would love it if i could find a way to get my money back for the car so i could try something else out. I have had it long enough that i'm itching for something new. I've had 12 cars since i started drivng 12 years ago. I have a problem. Unfortunately now the resale is going to drop like crazy.

Well maybe two more victims. You have to leave room for the fire works, nitroglycerin, and napalm you'll be carrying in the back. If you're gonna do it, do it right!

Nah! There's plenty of room behind the third row to do all that properly. Plus the roof rack. :D

I wont get any more toyotas. I've had two, one is great, the other was a brand new, total pile of **** that cost me $6k to get out of... that hurt a bit much, and now this, hell no.

The three I've owned (scion tc, Tacoma, matrix) were great and all gave me zero problems. Even my current matrix which is supposedly a fiery deathtrap according to the news hasn't had a single issue. My parents have had zero problems with the three lexus's they've owned (is250, GX suv, es330). I still don't think toyotas are bad vehicles ( they are super bland) they are just having some issues at the moment.

It has nothing to do with Toyota manufacturing or Toyota factory workers. They installed the part they were given correctly. The pedal assembly at fault comes from CTS which is a US manufacturer of auto parts. They supply lots of pedal assemblies to lots of auto manufacturers not just Toyota. I'm not real clear on who is responsible for the design of the pedal assembly whether it is 100% Toyota or CTS. CTS claims they built it to Toyota's specifications which i would believe.

I have to say, that's a pretty ignorant statement right there.

 yeah I think the factory workers have a pretty minimal role in designing the actual car.
