Looking a changing wheel out. I'm adding cruise to mine and since I have to pull the wheel to change out the control, thought I'd see what's out there. I'm thinking of a smaller wheel to allow a little more ease in getting in/out , I'm over 6', noticed old grey frog had a smaller one for that same reason in his. What about airbag, eliminated or aftermarket one with new wheel.

Whats your question?

I installed an aftermarket wheel and eliminated the airbag. Some may think that is a big deal, I don't. If you want to go smaller wheel and keep the airbag choices are going to be few and cost is going to be high.

I've got a 350mm Momo Champion wheel and generic hub. I'm 6' as well and I really like this setup. The car came with a 320mm wheel which was too small for my liking and it blocked my view of the gauge cluster.

Oh, did I mention it's for sale? :)

Ahhhh!!! :D

Momo, Nardi, etc...cant go wrong with those. Whatever style is to your liking.
One of my cars has a Momo (thanks to Lance) and the other has a LeCarra.

Love the Momo, I spent the extra to be able to use an airbag again in the future, but the 350mm MOMO is a great choice, they go as small as 320 mm, check GoMiata.com, they have a really great selection of MOMO wheels at a lot of price points.

To eliminate the airbag light, you'll need a 3ohm 1/4watt resistor and wire it into the two wires for the airbag.

I'm running a Sparco 383 320mm seude steering wheel...although with regular use, the seude has turned to smooth leather

On 90-94 models eliminating the airbag only requires unplugging the modules above the steering column, and removal of the airbag light bulb from the cluster. Done. No resistors needed.

Later models are more complicated only due to the location of the module, which requires dash removal to get at.

Yeah, I loved how I found out the fun way that on my 96 when I removed the airbag light bulb..it started buzzing at me. Damn you Mazda!

I bought a special adapter that you plug the airbag wires into. No lights or buzzers, and if I want to, I can reinstall my factory airbag. I have too much into my car to ever sell, but if I did, I'll bet buyers will want functioning safety equipment. The NA wheels were actually quite a bit larger than the NB wheel, so a 350mm wheel will feel quite nice in an NA, a 320mm will give you some really quick input, and some really high turn effort if you were to run a manual rack. I think somewhere between 320-350 is perfect, my MOMO Commando is 350, but is flat at the bottom, which clears just a little more space above my thighs.

Cheap hubs are well...cheap. Usually the metal is inferior and may not hold up.

You can find used momo for close to the cheap hub price.
Actually I may have a momo hub.

I've been thinking about getting a decent hub and one of those ebay wheels. Jester if you do have a momo hub I might be interested in buying it depending on price. How much do you want for it?

I played with an ebay wheel in a friends car once. The wheel itself where you hold it, had no reinforcement, such as wood, and i could bend the wheel back and forth about 2 inches. ****tyyyyy
