View Full Version : NB Strut Assembly Question

There are 2 rubber bushings at the top hat, one goes over and one goes under. I have all the pieces, but can't distinguish in the parts diagram which bushing is which.
One bushing is uniform on top and bottom. The other bushing is flat on the bottom and a little conical on the top. The conical side is embossed with "UP".
Trial and error fitting leads me to believe that the bushing with the conical side goes under the top hat, with the UP side facing up obviously. Then the other bushing goes over the top hat and under the upper washer.
Basically I have (top to bottom)
Nut
Top Washer
Bushing symmetric about horizontal axis
top hat
Non symmetric bushing with conical side facing up
Bottom Washer/Part that hits the bump stop
Can anyone confirm which bushing goes over and which goes under the top hat.
The rear bump stops fit SNUG over the shock shaft. Should I put a little lube of some sort on there to prevent any possible squeaking, or should I leave it dry to not attract any dirt on the shock shaft.
Also it appears that all 4 assemblies use the same small parts-hats, bushings, washers, spring perches. Of course the shocks and springs are different, and I have longer bump stops for the rear.

Can't really help you, but have you considering taking apart the top on one of the Teins? They have NB top hats.

the top mounts are the same but the top bushing is captured and all the items under the top mount are completely different. The teins don't have bumpstops. Besides I don't have a spring compressor.
Anyway, Chad Jernigan says the conical bushing goes under the top hat, which is what I thought. Made better sense to me that way.

If you want I am going to run to my storage unit after work and find my spring compressors. I have no problem dropping them off at your place if you want to use them before the tech day.

you have the order right. Also no, there doesn't need to be any lube for the bump stop. It's supposed to be a bit snug. And foam on metal won't ever squeak. If you ever get that, you've probably got bigger problems LOL

Really I'm so exited to get this stuff done, I'm having a VERY hard time waiting until Saturday to do the work.

The rears are pretty snug, the fronts aren't loose to where they have side to side free play, but they glide very easily.

Hey show off, how do you access smilies? I don't see any. Nor do I see the menu that should be over the text box that allows you to change font styles, link, add pics, etc.

Got nothing to do. It's been slow today. Which is ok because I've been slammed with work for the past 2 days.

Ben, you're "guess" on the rubber busings is correct.
I still think you're over-analyzing you're suspension install lol. Stop hyping it up.

I wish I had taken pics of my susp work, but yeah, you have it right. Are those Eiback springs or stock ones? That setup looks really clean. My setup looks like Superman (red Swift springs on blue Tokico shocks).

Yea I know that feeling, I just got new work and I am about to be done and go play test. What a waste of a day.

Sit here and get paid. Could be doing other things but earning pay on downtime is ok too.

Not over anaylzing anything. Making sure that I put it on correctly for the guy who's going to drive the car 500+ miles home.
The picture is not mine, it's from FM. I'm not an AGX fan.
I've got yellow bilsteins and green tein springs.

Yeah looks that way. Someone wants to fly in next weekend and drive home.
He hasn't said anything about the hood, so I guess he doesn't want it.

ok, that is not fare as I am not getting paid to sit here. Got to pay my dues.

Well I'm salaried now, so I get paid whether I'm here or not. And I've definitely paid my dues with some of the jobs I've had in the past. :)
Ben, that's great! I decided that I don't want to mess with a hood right now, so if you sell it, so be it.

Eh, just throw it together with some washers and tin foil... it'll be fine
