So this morning I leave the house a bit early so I can swing by the house we are moving out of. I had put some free stuff at the end of the driveway and wanted to see if any of it had been picked up. My other reason is because my commute to work is sooooo short, I wanted to give the car some warm up time because it had been sitting outside all night (usually gets parked in the garage...but it wasn't last night).
So anyway, I jump on 285, and get about 1/2 mile down and something catches my eye. I can't even guess what it was...but before I knew it BAMMM! from my right side. W T F? !? !?! !? I look over to see my mirror shattered. Great. Something got kicked up from the car in front of me and destroyed my pass. mirror.
So I hopped over to Parts Group to see if they had any used. No. Call MazMart and indeed Paul has a mirror for me.....but it's Titanium II from a Mazdaspeed and it won't match. But, Mr. Paul can get me a brand new mirror for a killer deal...about $50 more than my comp. deductable if I were to make an insurance claim. Since it's not woth the claim, I'll be coming out of pocket for the whole mirror. The good thing baout the new one is that it comes painted in my shade of titanium.
All good?
Almost.
You see, go figure that I had just bought a pair of hard to find Bomex mirrors, but they need to be painted. So do I just buy a mirror or do I take that cash and get the new ones painted and buy a new OE mirror later?
BTW, here are the Bomex mirrors...

That sucks! Did you ever figure out what hit you? I would go with the new mirrors since you want to put them on there anyways.

The only thing about the Bomex is that I have to see how much it will cost to paint them and turn around time to get them back. I can get the OE mirror very quickly. I am going to be irritated driving around with one mirror missing.

Nah, I only saw something flying out of the corner of my eye. I wasn't about to pull over on 285 and walk back to look for something. It could have been a number of things. I just don't get my luck...or lack thereof sometimes.

Paint the Bomex mirrors. No sense in paying for an OE mirror when you know you're going to need get the Bomex mirrors painted anyways.

Yeah, it makes sense. Guess I'll eventually pick up another OE mirror just to have a original pair on hand in case. But now also comes the fun of finding time to hit up a couple body shops to get quotes. At least I have part of the OE mirror that I can give them to make sure the paint is an exact match...if the color is off, it'll bother me like hell.

I have a friend that is a painter in Kennesaw. He can usually paint stuff the same day.

Don't you and Jenn usually have repairs done at Magnum? If you were closer to me, I'd refer you to the guy that painted the Honda.

BOMEX, those will look great on your car. I'd still get the OEM because you know if you don't they'll be impossible to find a year from now and the price might go up. My .02

That sucks! I thought I was going to come into this thread and see a trashed GV front bumper, glad to have found that not to be the case.
Also vote for paint the Bomex set now and get an OEM later. At least it was your passenger side mirror. You can somewhat survive without that mirror for a short time, you're a capable enough driver.

Sounds to me like were actually really lucky in this case. Mirror is the only damage? Count your blessings!
Last winter, I had **** fly up and break my windshield 7 times.

Rock chips are bugging me. I'd rather repaint than touch up.

I would go to CR collision over in Stone Mt. They did a great job on my car, and on something like your mirrors , I'm thinking you could get it back the next day, he did my extra GV headlight trim for me next day. Also, get a stock OEM painted at the same time, it won't cost anymore, you are paying for paint mixing as much as anything in a job this small. Bomex mirrors look cool, tell me where you got them so I can copy you again...lol.

But a used mirror from Kurt is cheaper, if you are paying yourself.
