Nice looking car. What wheels are those?

Mazda brought 3000 of these to the US 10-11 years ago, or average 60 per state. If memory serves, 5 have shown up on our little board. For comparison, the same number of Mahogany Micas Special Editions were imported in 00, but there are none represented on this board I can recall. I do know one guy who lives in the city who own one. 3000 01 SEs were also brought in, and I have seen one or two, but don't know of any personally.

02 got a bit more complicated. There were ~10 "special" cars between the 2 different SEs and the SO cars. I believe they total at 3000 for all combined.

03 had a SE and the Shinsen. Total run on them was 3000 combined.
03 was the last of the SE NB.

id cut my arm off for a mint condition 01 brg. i have this one lady in my phone who owns one. her name is tammy. zdddamn i left my number on her car one day in hopes of offering her money, drugs, and sexual favors, as well as a set of stock 16" wheels with good tires, so she would trade me her polished 16" wheels. she said nah.

but yea you got some big ol tires on the rear of that 10th

Sometimes they don't, sometimes they do. Just depends on the quality of equipment used, how well it's put together to start with, and how well it's tuned.

Good grief, that sucked!

I was running 15psi on the stock motor until it popped for whatever reason. Of course, that's not to say I was using all 15psi everywhere I went, only full throttle runs.

dont mess with the mazda speed kit......invest in a FM or BEGi kit!

from what i hear the turbos are crap!

plus by the time you spend all the money to do the factory setup you could be making more power with another kit!

oneslammed10ae
12-06-2009, 08:11 PM
ok thanx for the advice see im only seventeen and im trying to get out there so im getting all the advice i can and thought id get a good car for mods so i bought the car after saving the money cause everything for them was kinda cheap so but how much do those kits cost

ben91
12-06-2009, 08:15 PM
The MSM kit is fine for the money. It ain't the greatest, but you can add 40 or so whp for less than a G, and that's pretty respectable.

from what i have researched there is a ****load of headache involved with putting one on a none MSM car!

cause this was the route i was wanting to take when i first got my car!

12-06-2009, 08:22 PM
Not really, no more so than any other kit.

i can see it being done easy with a stand alone ecu....but if your planning on using the MSM ecu that where the problems come in! that part of what i was reading about as far as the setup goes!

oneslammed10ae

Would not use MSM electronics--too much work and they suck.

oneslammed10ae
12-06-2009, 08:28 PM
ok ill take that in to account but what should i use ?? should i just go stand alone fuel system or piggy back

wonton
12-06-2009, 08:30 PM
thats what i was getting at as far a the headache stuff! after i sat around and though about it.......if i went with the factory MSM set up i would eventually pull all that **** off and get better stuff.....so to save time and money i just went strait for better aftermarket parts!

oneslammed10ae
12-06-2009, 08:31 PM

wonton

thats entirely up to you and your goals......if im not mistaken and sombody correct me if im wrong but you can only go so far with a piggy back, and you can pretty much do anything with a stand alone!

piggy back is more budget minded and standalone is more exspensive!

oneslammed10ae

ok is that cheaper cause thats what i was gona do is look around for parts here and there for cheap and my buddie can weld so i was thinking why not pick up a small cheap turbo and getting him to weld it on to a ebay manifold what do u think about that kinda thing

Here, there was a guy on miataturbo that did a while MSM turbo setup on a 10AE using basic fuel management and reported that the car drove much better than a MSM, so if you've driven a MSM, don't use that mentality that using that turbo will yield the same results in power delivery.

Here is the guy's thread.

http://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t31981/

Also, look through more of his threads for information. IIRC he was running a smooth 10psi on it and was happy....and for cheap.

Oh and go read through NickT93's build thread as he is dong something very similar and on a budget.

think about it! say in the event your turbo does go bad, you will have to get rid of the turbo......so you will want to be able to remove it easy to replace. if its welded then you have to worry about cutting it off the mani if you want to salvage it!

studs and nuts FTW! < im gonna get some **** for that!

if you keep an eye out on parts....people will upgrade alot of there stuff. like say go from a log manifold to a tubular! and you can get good deals that way.....just be patient and watch for parts!

The other thing to think in regards to standalone vs. piggyback is passing emissions on a 1996+ car. Piggyback will let your stock ECU throw OBDII codes if there's a problem, standalone won't, therefore emissions is easier to pass. But a piggyback will limit your ability to tune and produce more power as mentioned. The only standalones I believe that are available for the 96-05 Miatas are the Hydra and the Adaptronic.

Agreed, do not weld the turbo the manifold. Either look into a v-band setup if you're willing to spend the coin (or will be heavily tracking the car) or just stick with the traditional stud/nut method of attaching the two, which is perfectly fine for the street.
