On the last Saturday in December the Georgia Triumph club will run the tenth Polar Bear Run. Yes, it is the day after Christmas. A link with instructions to the start can found at www.gatriumph.com. This year the run will end at Barnsley Gardens. It is open to all classic and interesting cars. A few of y'all went last year, and I think you will admit there were more than one two or interesting cars that lined up for the event. This year it will start in Roswell. Even if you don't make the run you should come out and check out the cars in the parking lot. I will be there in one of our Minis, probably the red Van. I hope to have the Cooper S brakes installed by then. I really hope Kurt and maybe Jeff will be able to make their first presentation of their latest acquisitions, and I will let them tell y'all what they are.

If I am in town for Xmas I will certainly attend...perhaps even in a 'classic' or 'interesting' car.

I hope you will make it, and a few others with "interesting" cars.

Damn....Looks like we'll miss out on this year's event (Mom's 70th Bday)
Had a blast last year, maybe we can sneak out for the pre-ride meet & greet

I'm going to try to go. Hopefully not embarrass the miata name with another brake down at a British car event.

Yeah...It's always funny when a guy in an MGB stops to offer roadside assistance...

I forgot to mention, George Forster emailed me saying to invite the 'Miata club' to this event.
Even though its geared to old and 'interesting' cars, we Miata crazies are welcome. :)

Kurt - I've been driving the Mini Van with barely any brakes for the last nine years. But today I have begun the installation of the Cooper S disc brakes. All is going well, but when trying to change the left brake hose I've run into trouble. I abandoned it for today. Oh yeah, you can have my front brake leftovers if it will help you make the Polar Bear.

I drove a 73 vw for years with Flintstone brakes. I just had to make sure there was tread on my boots and the rusted out floor boards made it easy.

I am planning to be there. Sounds like a good time and what else is there to do.

Get to the starting location early. Enjoy looking at all the different cars and hang out with the nice people. Usually some where a long the route pull over and have a drink and check out some more cool cars.
Last year the run ended in down town Athens. Loads of good places for a beer or two or a few things to munch on. I'm not sure about this years run, but I do know that the organizer put a lot of work into the route, so it should be fun

...and if your Miata breaks down, dont worry, some guy in a British car will be along shortly to help you out. They always have plenty of tools, wire, and spare parts with them.

This year we will end up at Barnsley Gardens. I've never been there so I have no idea what's there, probably a garden? Oh yeah, and some high priced overnight accomodations, which we can get a discount at if so inclined. Barbie is working that night at the Mellow, so I am not inclined. The weather looks to be just about perfect, y'all come on out.
Kurt - are you gettting the brakes done so you can make the drive in a Mini?

I kind of doubt my Mini will have undergone sufficient work and testing to be roadworthy by Saturday, unless Santa's elves give me a hand. :D

Hey Ben,
I flashed my lights a few times but you didn't see me. I "had" to make a pit stop in Dawsonville haha. Sorry I had to break away. Once I was back on the road I saw several cars stopped at the turn off for Big Canoe. I pulled in and road in the rest of the way with that group. I was behind the white Bug eye with the blue stripes/no windshield, the flat black Porsche, and the MGA with the small windshield. I don't know how those guys were able to stand it. I put my top down leaving Dawsonville and I was cold even with my windows up and the heat going.
I saw you at Barnsley but I was eating and you were headed out for a walk around the houses. I went looking for you after I finished but couldn't find you. I hung around for a little while then headed home. It was nice meeting you and Chris. It was a fun ride I will plan to do next year.

OK, well I feel better. Glad you made it ok. Coming out of downtown dawsonville, that brand new dodge ram broke into the caravan between us. I could not see your car through him. In fact, he tailgated me close enough that I could only see a part of his hood and windshield in my rear view. I slowed down to ~40, and on a curve I saw what I thought to be your miata behind, but after the truck finally pulled out of the caravan, I saw it was an NA miata behind me.
When we got to Barnsley, one of the guys said that he saw you at a gas station just outside of dawsonville, and he believed you were ok and just making a pit stop.
Sorry I must not have seen you at Barnsley. I didn't see your car either. I did see the guy who drove the open bugeye, and I saw his car, so I don't know how I missed you.
Nice meeting you.

I was in the first parking lot. Once the lot in the back filled up they started directing us to park up there. Yes, I stopped at the Chevron with the bug eye, MGA, and the flat black porsche. Great fun, wish we had today's weather yesterday.

He he I was warm and toasty with the top down. It's been 3 or 4 months since I've been able to drive the car anywhere fun to drive. The warmth must have been the warm glow of joy.
