View Full Version : Mike's E28: You Either Love It or Hate It.

I caught up with Mike at the IA gathering in Nashville during the summer. At the time, his car was in a stage that many people hated, especially fellow Bimmer owners. Well Mike has changed the look of the car again which I sure will cause even more hatred. I have to give him credit for being original and now worrying about what others will think. :p

Yes it would. Seeing the jaws of death come down on you before you die is apropos. Seeing those same jaws on the side of a car...not so much.

I've seen a few other cars with the intentional rust. I never really totally understand it. The article below gave me a little more perspective on where he's coming from. The car looks hard, but the wheels play a big part in that - the contrast between the clean baller wheels and the rest of the car is hilarious.

LB, Steve should get down on his knees each and every day and thank his Lord and Savior, 'cause you are the only woman I know that would "understand" 90% of what goes on around here, let alone think the rust mobile is a suitable dating transport.

I liked the bright orange rust better, its still a cool looking car. Original at its finest. I saw it at some giant VW thing in Helen this year. Got some pics cause I was so intrigued. I should really get a photobucket or something so that my pictures are just attachments. Whatever. Just thinking out loud.

I'm not a fan of that style, but agree he has made it different and distinct. And if he's happy with it, that's still all that matters at the end of the day. I had someone call my car the ugliest pile of sh** they ever saw today, just goes to show not everyone likes the same thing. lol

I appreciate the guy wanting to be different, and I kinda dig how the car looks (minus the chain door handle).
I just think he should have been a little more accurate (putting a paint scheme from an American P-40 Warhawk onto a German car doesn't make any sense to me).

No it doesn't...lol...it just takes being a normal person and not a nut swinger. There are tons of cars that stand out, doesn't mean anyone has balls, so I guess all emo kids stand out too because they wear clothes that tell look at me I'm depressed?

wow... i think i honestly shed a tear over that thread... that was my favorite BMW over any i have ever seen... its like losing a child it really is... i felt similar when the white car died... that little white miata made me so many friends and had so many story's to tell... it truly is depressing EVEN if you have 30 cars to lose one that has sentimental value of that degree its truly heartbreaking.... truly truly heartbreaking... honestly if i had the money i would buy the shell and have it welded to a giant cement block with a plaque to tell its story... truly my favorite car ever posted on here... and i never got to see it in person... and im just about to get some real wheels soon i was going to ask if he wanted to do a photo shoot... seriously my girlfriend is making fun of me rite now because of how sad reading that thread made me....
R.I.P rusty... u wont be forgotten... hopefully i can build a clone one day in your memory. Respect...

i saw a thing about the car with the jaws on speedhunters.com and they sanded it down IIRC and then rubbed it down with diesel oil to get the patina, so it's not a rust car.. rough car?
