Tech day on the 22nd doesn't need to failboat.
I'll be working on my car or cars at my dad's shop in Lawrenceville on the 22nd. I need to put coilovers on the 99 and put together bilsteins on the 91.
I have lifts, tools, and air. I would appreciate any help, and would be able to reciporcate help at that time and/or at any point in the future. Even if people need easy things like oil changes, it's really convienent to be able to have the car in the air and then not have to deal with getting rid of the old oil.

I think we can manage to bring both cars out to the Snellville Shroom Saturday

Well, after the thread cancelling the MM tech day and no other post having been made in it's place, i'm sure there are a good many people who thought the idea simply vanished leaving that open again.

Although a fresh date and location was asked for, I think most people forgot that Ben offered up his dad's shop for use.

There was no concrete plans set for the 22nd, and if Ben really wanted to make it known, there would have either been a) a change in his initial thread with updated information or b) a new thread stating that the 22nd tech day was still on and the location had been moved.
Ya got to wave a bight color flag in front of people to get their attention, not just make one post in a thread where the title is saying an event is cancelled. The idea of a food/drink meet came up and I took the controls because no one else was and no one had stepped up on securing the tech day meet. IMO :)

Well, in all fairness, I think Ben has had a LOT on his plate lately and his attention is dwelling there and not on making sure everyone knows that he's offering a place to work on your car. It is what it is though. Just pointing it out is all.
I think a tech then dinner day is a good idea however.

So how bouts "tech day: suspension" in Lawrenceville, followed by Mellow Mushroom in Snellville. Obviously attendance at one event does not mandate attendance at the other, however both locations are within very reasonable distance from each other.
I'll have 1 or 2 miatas that will need suspension. Both of mine should be pretty fast; they're both southern cars that have had their suspension off before. But I've never had coil overs of my own before, so I'd appreciate help from someone with experience. I know at least 2 other people here need suspension work. With a lot of hands, lifts, and air tools it will go by quickly. Plus there should be time to get additional cars on a lift(s) for other things, depending on when things get started.

I've got a set of Tein springs I need to install on mine. Shocks were installed a few years ago, and it is a southern car, so it should go smooth. I wonder if we can fit it in?

If we're doing suspension, I'll get some springs for my car bring them along. Since I am useless in helping with suspension work, I'll help provide lunch or breakfast or something.
I think keeping it to one subject is a very good idea. If everyone brings different parts and pieces it will take hours and hours to do each job and a lot of people will be left out but with doing the same thing over and over, all the tools are already out and people can watch and learn and help out much easier.

I'm pretty useless when it comes to mechanical stuff....I know a little, but I choose to keep it all bottled up inside. Therefore, I'm good with helping bring breakfast, donuts, whatever. Jenn, I could give you a hand with this if you want.
I'll be happy to pick up the tab for the food, as well

Cool cool. Looking good.
Shop is called Atlanta Import Auto. It's a blue steel and red brick building on the right side if you're heading north on 29. Between Abra Collision and something-er-other small car lot. Across from a new-ish school.
Shop has plenty of tools, but if you think you have something you might want to bring, bring it. With a bit emphasis on spring compressors, looks like we'll need a couple to keep things moving fast. But we should be ok, the facility is much nicer and better equipped than the one we were discussing earlier.
If people get hungry, there's plenty of food available within a couple miles in all directions, including a hole in the wall type bbq joint a block away. Beer drinkin is definately permissable.
Also, there will probably be 2 large dogs present. So it's best if you're not afraid. Because they'll just chase you down.

I drive a minivan, bringing a stripped down cyliner head isn't a problem. lol Besides, the underlying reason I wanted to bring it was to let you look at it and get your opinion. :) Gotta bring your coil pack too. :D

Bull**** on all accounts.
Is the head all assembled still? I'm assuming it is. We'll need to take the cams off. I'll throw my service manual in the trunk for the tq specs for the cam bearing bolts.
Some plastic bags and a permanent marker might be a really good idea. That way you can have the cams out while you're cleaning the cyl head out, but then still be able to correctly reassemble identified parts.
I'm not gonna be at this one. Things came up, and I need to get away from Atlanta for a little bit. Get my mind off things. Roadtrip to N. Carolina ^..^

Same with me. Luckily, I don't have any tech stuff to do on my car. I think you guys have your hands full, anyway.
Have a great time!

Brake rotor centers?

why would you want to do that?

I've had painted hubs on a few cars now because it looked better with my old wheels that I didn't like the centercaps that came with them. Black wheels showing silver in the center = yuk
My calipers are also painted black.

Great, I should be over that way around 10am then. Its gonna be COLD tomorrow though....I will probably forget about the sways tomorrow and just do the springs. I think I want to go ahead and get some Poly Bushings for the sways, and possibly new end links...

Hell yeah it was fun... although i'm a bit sore right now from pulling and pushing on the various suspension bits :( I'll be fine in the morning. I hope we can set up a mini day when Jenn gets the right springs so we can get them on ASAP. Looking forward to seeing the various pictures...which should probably get their own thread :)

I'm sure a lot of people wished that as well! :)
But shop/tool/lift access is nothing to turn down either. I need to go check with my dad's next door neighbor again about that shop, when the wood burning stove is going in there, it's as warm as a house.

Well I'd offer up that shop, but the details are not firmed up yet, and it also does not have a lift installed in it yet either. But yet are the operative words in both of those statements. :D

Next time I get a complete car for parts I need to have a 'tech' day at my place and let everyone completely dismantle a Miata in a couple hours. No standing around in girlie clothes either...hehe....everyone has to grab a wrench, screwdriver, or hammer and pitch in.
You can learn alot about a car by totally taking everything part. ;)

Thanks to everyone that came out to the Mellow last night, Barbie sure appreciated the business. And I also have to thank everyone that helped me with my spring installation. Other than me leaving the front lug nuts loose it was perfect. I am very happy with the Bilstein/Tein/FatCat(bumpstop) combination, it's a definite improvement over the stock springs and bump stops. I remembered the loose lug nuts before the wheels fell off.

Is your head OK today?
What was almost funny, well by funny I mean a typical for me type situation, is my Benz has a first aid kit compartment from the factory. It's in the rear package shelf. I opened its door to grab the first aid kit to get disenfectant and a bandage, when I was reminded that I removed the first aid kit and used the compartment for an amplifier. Yeah, that sounds like something I'd do.
I only got 2 minor gashes on my right pinky on Saturday, but yesterday I ended up getting a good 2" scratch on my left pointer right at the end of the day. And you got the last/only bandaid so just used a rag.

Yeah, i'm alright for the most part. I had a headache lastnight and had a hard time reading because my left eyes is still pretty swollen (as is my forehead above my left eye). Your finger would have been better off with some TP and tape than a bandaid lol

That and the fact that I forgot a plug when I installed my first BEGi downpipe, and that noise was all too familiar, so I searched for the plug holes.
