I'm curious. I've been looking around a bit into diff "theories" of what causes exhaust rasp.
I would consider my exhaust pretty raspy. When it's cold, it's more of a buzzing sound. When the car is warm, there is a good bit of rasp.

The exhaust as a whole sounds pretty good if I could just get rid of some of ther rasp. There are no exhaust leaks.

My current setup is MP62 hotside, Jackson racing header, full 2.5" turbo exhaust with high flow cat and magnaflow resonator and muffler.

Would the high flow cat cause this? With my stock midpipe/muffler there is no rasp. I'm throwing a p0420 anyway with the high flow cat. It probably needs to be replaced.

Most raspiness can come from a cat that's too open but I've had great results by simply welding in a glasspack in place of the current resonator, the longer the better. The last one I did had no cat at all and the Borla sport rear section, quieted it down and sounded much smoother. You can get them at most parts stores for under $30 and weld it in from the cat to the front of the subframe.

A lot also depends on the type/size of the muffler. Like bolting up a generic Flowmaster chambered muffler may sound like ***, while using a nice glass-packed traditional muffler maybe sound deep and smooth. I know the ANSA muffler coupled with a large converter and no resonator sounded very mellow and deep on my s/c'ed 99 with no rasp at all. I've noticed that Magnaflow stuff seems to sound better on turbo cars (from what i've heard personally, YRMV).

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll try switching to a regular cat.

Mike - What diameter was the exhaust on your m45 setup?
