I have a borla single pipe on my car right now and I love it. it is a great exhaust for an N/a. Loud enough to give character to the car but quiet enough to not piss off the girlfriend/wife.

idk if anyone has seen, or knows lee ann with the burgandy miata with a hard top, but she has the borla dual exhaust and i love it.

^ Having ridden in her car, stay the hell away from the one she has. It gave me a splitting headache within 10 minutes. Worst droning thing I've ever ridden in.

And as far as testimonials go, I had a 2.25 in. catback made up for my white Miata at a local shop in Covington that does custom work on street rods/race cars.. Flowmaster 40. Sounded a lot like Acro's car but not quite so crackly. Had a nice snarl to it but it wasn't deafening. The tone of a chambered exhaust is a lot more raspy than the kind of mellow drone that you get with straight-through mufflers. :)

lol its because she has a hardtop lol. and hers i think is full straight pipe to the muffler. mines gonna have a cat, resonator (extra pipe w/out one for track.) then muffler. so i should be avoiding the terrible drone.
but im also considering having my buddy custom fab me one at his exhaust shop. so thats 2-300 bucks lol

My .02 opinion..."duals" on a Miata really arent as there is only one midpipe...and when vapor is visible it comes only from one side...looking kinda ghey. If it was me I'd go for a good single exhaust setup of your choice. ;)

lol i like the dual better :P
plus every miata i see has the single tip. im going to be different :D
but i do think that the visible vapor from one tip is gonna be HILARIOUS!

Actually it was with the top off and at relatively high speeds. It's that bad. Lol.
And duals ftl. :P

FWIW, I had FM duals on mine, and I did get the exhaust vapors out of one side, but only when it was cold outside. Other than that, both sides flowed about even, especially at full throttle. The Enthuza I have splits them evenly, so it'll look like true duals when cold.
And I think duals make for a good looking Miata.

I'd say get a St. MArtY center exit exhaust....BUT...there is only one of those in existence.

I'ld talk to Enthuza on here in his forum about your options with him. He makes Miata specific exhausts with dyno proven gains at very reasonable prices. He also uses Borla mufflers and has quite a few different routes you can go. I have his 2.25 resonated borla and it has a really rumbly mellow low end and sounds stockish high end. Making it fun and easy on the ears when cruising at 75mph but still noticeable around town and at autocross.
But like I said, get in touch with Enthuza, he's better priced than a custom exhaust and has alot of Miata experience.

Unless you changed what you had, yo u have a BOSAL/Brospeed exhaust. IIRC the Borla is rather loud. ANSA and Roadstersport make rather nice exhausts too. I'd probably recommend the ANSA for the sound and the style of the tip is nice... i'm not one for thick-walled tips like the RB and the Bosal. Speaking of RB, they have a twin-tip muffler that looks pretty BA. Try doing a search of different exhausts on youtube... you'd be surprised what you'll find on there :)
Here is the twin-tip RB...

My duals very obviously flowed from both sides. some 1-in to 2-out mufflers however don't divide the flow well at low exhaust volume and end up creating a venturi that sucks through one end and blows out the other. However, with most of these mufflers, when throttle is applied and exhaust volume increases, both pipes end up flowing outward.
I like my duals because they look baller and sound awesome, so I don't mind the couple extra pounds they add. However if my motives were purely performance oriented, I'd get a single exit exhaust.
Whatever you do, give Jason @ Enthuza a chance. He can make something to suit your needs and he's local.

hmm i really dont like the look of the twin tip..kinda weird lol
i did do the research on youtube, and found that i liked the borla duals the best, as i couldnt find a good RB dual clip, plus like you said mike, im not fond of the thick walled tips lol

single FTW. the nicest sounding muffler ive ever heard on a miata was matt's power pulse. it was perfect. nice and deep, loud but not offensive and NO droning.

The Roadstersport (also known as 'Chinasport' :D) is ehh okay, I had one.
I think for quality of build and all the RB is better. Its a little mellower sound too.
If you want a cheaper alternative I actually like the OBX better then the Chinasport.
If I was going to get a new exhaust though I think I'd just check out what options Jason
has and go with one of those. No shipping required either. ;)

If that involves a turbo (which it should), then we should work something out between me, you, and Jason on this 2 month used Enthuza stainless 3" I have in the garage.

Go buy a 110v HF wire feed welder for $200 and build your own. I've got a used hooker raptor turbo style muffler and a 2-1/4" straight pipe exhaust from my NB race car I will sell you for $20 to get you started. You just have to come pick it up. When you want to try something else out, just cut out the old muff and add a new one in its place.
I built the one below for my sister from a MSM rear section, just welded up the two pipe sections as a jig and cutout the stock muffler.

Had the RB and It droned like no tomorrow,I removed the resonated tip and it helped some.Custom fabbed a 2.5" system with a Trush Glasspack and 90* turn out out the drivers side,a little too loud for some but nice note and no drone.a well tuned engine sounds better than a one that needs to have the plugs changed and the timing is less than

+1 for enthuza. I believe thats whats on mine and I'd say it sounds perfect for a miata. Very sporty tone, not raspy. Loud enough to easily hear with a helmet but not nearly as loud as a race exhaust. And looks fantastic, single tip.
