So I'm installing my new shocks and springs Sunday so I called the parts stores around town and they're wanting 48-60$ to rent compressors for one day. This seems rediculas since a new set from harbor freight is only 20. But since I don't have time for shipping does anyone have any idea where I could rent a set for a reasonable price?

Depending on what you're doing, you might not even need them.

Yeah, I thought about just using the "long bolt" proceedure but everyone says to just get the compressors

Eh, that's not what I was saying.

Some spring/shock combinations wont' require a spring compressor to assemble.

The spring compressors are a huge pain anyway. I think they hindered us more than helped.

Out of all the suspension setups I've done, I've yet had to use a compressor, especially using aftermarket springs as the spring itself is shorter then an OE piece.

Very cool, I'll just save myself the money and not worry about it. The springs are def shorter so it shouldn't be much of a problem

I borrowed a spring compressor from napa, you put down a deposit and they give it all back to you when you return it.

Yeah I've never used one either, even if removing springs from a shock, point and shoot lol.

If you're renting them from a parts store don't you get the money back?

If you use the "point and shoot method" how do you reassemble the new shocks, springs, etc?

Same deal with Autozone - I just borrowed a set from them. Put down a $50 deposit which was fully refunded when I brought them back.

haha ya i needed some spring compressors, so i borrowed them from autozone after i made a deposit. Then i decided i used them too much to keep renting them, so i kept them since they were brand new and making a deposit is just you paying for them then getting some back when you return them.

You can do it by hand. Basically the spring is short enough on the shock body that you can put the top hat on and start threading the nut.
