Two different types of ammo? Aiming it at one's self?

Bernie

Ding, ding, ding... we have a winnah! I was going with "aiming at one's self"...

Sometimes you really wonder if people should have to pass some sort of IQ test before being sold a gun.

I'm sure he could easily pull the trigger with his thumb. Or were you referring to the mixed ammo types?

My father used to load his pistols like this all the time... mumbled something about wanting penetration but not wanting to risk a clean "through and through" that left his attacker / intended target standing.

lol no. The top one's a hollow point, bottom one's a full metal jacket. But yes, pointing a loaded gun at yourself = t3h dumb. I get the heeby jeebys looking down the barrel of my gun when I've got it taken down to field strip (ie: holding the barrel itself with no other mechanicals attached).

The old Hungarian Police-issue Walther PPK copy that my Dad carried used to jam when feeding hollow points. So he'd have a hollow point in the chamber, and the mag would be full of FMJs. That pistol got stolen out of his car in the Orlando Airport...so hopefully some criminal found out the hard way that it jams a lot ;)

Torn down guns are great for scaring off jehovah's witnesses too. Too bad i've rearranged the furniture now so that the coffee table isn't in view of the front door. Oh well, the china cabinet is, and that's where all my guns now reside. Well, the pistols, that is. The SKS and FNAR won't quite fit.

How does one actually go about the whole gun process. I would like to get a handgun for home defense in the not so distant future. Ideally a used reliable pistol. I'm looking at $200 MAX, $120ish ideal (even less even better!!). I have no idea what comes into this price range, but I don't need a target practice gun although I will certainly take it to a shooting range. It's mainly something to stop someone if they kick down my front door.

What do I do? What paper work is involved? How about for a concealed weapons permit? Say I find a used deal on a forum, what would I do? Educate a gun-free Brit here.

Jack, don't know what you'll find for under $200 but I picked up a nice Springfield XD .40 caliber for about $350. I live pretty far north compared to you, but the Cumming pawn shop has great deals on used guns. As far as a license, you only need one if you plan on concealed carry, in your house or car no license needed. Don't know about your citizenship and how that affects gun ownership but I'm sure it does. I'm no expert and I'm sure there are folks way more informed than me on here. I do have a carry permit and enjoy going to shoot either my pistol or my semi-auto AK47.

BTW Simon how on earth did you get a full auto AK? Aside from being stupid expensive, full auto rifles require a specific permit and that is even harder to get than the guns. My friend is an FFL gun dealer and has some full autos, BIG money for those guns.

Getting a Class III license isn't all that difficult GA, just requires a more stringent (and costly) background check that takes a month or so to complete. After that you get your tax stamp for the firearm ($200) and then have it transferred to you via a Class III FFL. That's the expensive way to do it since you always pay out the *** for a finished product, pre- or post-ban. Once all that clears you send a letter to your chief law enforcement official letting him know what's up and then they either approve or deny your ownership of it. The other alternative is to use pre-ban parts and then go through the same process, requiring a bit more effort on your part mehcanically, but substantially lowering the costs.

Now, if you're talking about getting a POST-ban firearm you're in for a ****load of paperwork and may as well open your own gun store at that point. Then, you have to go through all the same background checks and proclamations as before. Then you have to pay a yearly tax on it (Ithink it's $2000 a year), not just a one-time tax on it. What's awesome is that at this point, you can sell to the military/LEOs and just buy whatever the hell you want. So you can just call up HK and as for a couple MP5s and they'll send them to you at regular price.

For Jack, you can own a gun without a license in GA. You do need a carry permit in order to conceal or open carry, but all you have to do is go to your local probate court and go through the process. Usually costs like $35 and takes less than a month.

For that price range you're going to be hard pressed to find anything of decent quality, if anything at all. Although there are deals that pop up from time to time, they are few and very far between. With firearms you pretty much ALWAYS get what you pay for. There are brands that are on the lower side of the cost spectrum that still provide great reliability and build quality, but even they are well past the $200 range you're talking about. Expect to pay at least $400 for something that won't explode in your hands or just go *click click click* every time you pull the trigger.

yeh what he said ^
not trying to be a dick or anything Jack
but $200 will maybe get you a used/beat up revolver in a pawn shop or something
off-brand
dont get me wrong, you can trust your life to a revolver more so than a semi-auto
but a $200 gun you can't be so sure of
PM leeboat as him and pops own the baddest *** gun store in Newnan, and he comes across this stuff everyday with people buying or wanting to trade

$400 new or used? I am a Green Card holder if that matters any. So pawn shops are one of the better places to look I gather. Don't I have to register the gun if I buy it?

Ask at a local gun store. They're usually well versed on the whole transfer process so they should be able to let you know what's up. Since you have your card it shouldn't be a problem. Getting a CCW may be the tough part.

You wont find anything in that price range that is even close to decent . You really need about $300 to get into something worth while. I own a gun shop just south of Atlanta. The AR Bunker (770-304-0138) . You are more than welcome to call or come down a give us a visit. I will take care of all MX5ATLANTA guys that want to buy something. Citizenship not required , it will take a little longer for your background check to come back if you are not a US citizen but the longest you would wait would be 5 days. I can surely walk you through th e laws and processes for owning carrying and getting a license to carry . If you call my shop ask for Rusty or Lee both are MX5 members(Leeboat and Rustym511). Let me know what i can do to help.
