Just thought I would fill you in on my adventures over the last couple of days

Got home from Sweden late Sunday night. Went to work on Monday to a
day full of meetings. About 10 am my mother calls and says the waters
are rising in her neighborhood due to the rain. I asked her if her
feet were wet yet. She said no, so I said call me back when your feet
are wet.

At 2pm, she calls me again and says " looks like my feet are going to
be wet soon, better come and get me.

I drive to her place. The houses on the streets on either side of her
are up to the roofs in water. She is still dry, so we grab her
valuables, pile them into my miata and head to my house.

The secret to driving a miata in deep water is to tailgate the truck in front of you so that you can ride in the wake he creates. However, if he stops, the wave comes in from both sides and swamps you.

Yesterday at about 10 am I drive to her place to see if it survived the
flood. Yes, still high and dry, though the flood got to within three
houses from her. I call her from her place to tell her the flood
waters are subsiding, and I will come get her. She says my wife's
sister is at my house and will bring her. Fine.

While I wait for her and get her place back in some sense of order,
the whole place is rocked by an explosion. I run out the door to find
the one of the houses 4 doors down from her has exploded and is in
flames. Evidently a gas leak.

The fire department arrives to find that the closest fire hydrant is
somewhere under water and has to run about a 1/4 mile of hose!
They then seal off the neighborhood. Of course the hoses go right
past my mom's driveway, trapping my truck in place.

My mom and my wifes sister arrive to find they can not get into the
neighborhood. Police cars are blocking each of the intersections in
the development. Mom is about 1/2 mile from her place.

I pull her wheel chair out of the closet and start walking to where
she is. At each intersection I chat with the cops and see if they
will let me go out of the neighborhood and back in. After a bit of
bull****ting with each of them they say ok. Get to my mom, put her in
the chair and start to wheel her back into the development. At each
intersection, the cops are yelling at anyone trying to get into the
neighborhood, then calling out "Hi Lance, how you doing, come on
through!!

They did not get the mess from the fire cleaned up and the hoses
packed up till after 5.

And how was your day??

..and a good time was had by all.
Well except for the people with the blown up house.
On the other hand, if they didnt have flood insurance that fire may have been a good thing.
Glad youre safe.
