I'm going to be selling my car. This was not planned, but something came up.

The car is a 91. It was a base car with A/C. It is one of the lucky cars to get A/C but not get power steering. Steering response is excellent. The body, 1.6 longnose motor, and trans are all original with ~75,xxx miles. It has been turbocharged since ~45,xxx miles. Turbo system began as a Greddy kit, but all that is left from the original Greddy system is the manifold, mitsu 15g turbo, and oil feed line. Everything else has been upgraded, from a Spearco front mount intercooler, to the TurboTony downpipe, tunertoys oil drain kit, t-bolt clamps, etc etc. I have the original parts (sans downpipe) and they are all included with the car. It's also running a Flyin Miata ACT 1.8 clutch. I had an OEM flywheel lightened at a local machine shop.

Engine management is a MSPNP, the very first to come off the DIY Autotune production line actually. Car has been professionally tuned by Scott Seigel and Jerry Hoffman on a dynapack load dyno. The MS is running the newest HiRez firmware. EGO is accomplished by an Innovate LC1 wideband, which is included. The sensor is properly located at the tail edge of the downpipe. I paid something like $60 extra to have a custom dual 4-bar MAP sensor fitted in the PNP. This sensor is good for more boost than a miata motor will ever make AND has built in barometric correction. The PNP has also been modified at DIY Autotune for linear TPS and extra grounding. The MS is also set up to run electronic boost control.

Fueling the car is a Walbro 190lph HP fuel pump and RC Engineering 440 cc/min injectors. It also has a DIY dual feed fuel rail. Ignition is a custom Coil On Plug set up. I currently have plug gaps at .050" without misfire. The original ignition setup will be included with the car, if for some reason you wanted to run it again. :wtf:

In the car's current tune, it's good for ~27 mpg in daily mixed driving, 255whp, and 230 wtq. It's been (well over) 30 mpg in highway only trips. *premium fuel only* of course.

The engine and trans are stock, but the rear end has been upgraded with a hybrid 1.8 miata/RX7 diff. Final drive ratio is 4.08:1 and has a clutch type LSD from an RX7. The driveshaft and axles are 1.8 miata. I installed Mazda Comp bushings in the diff.

I installed a Griffen aluminum radiator with Griffen 1.7 bar cap just a few months ago. ($600+) I also installed an NB lower radiator hose. The cooling system is otherwise stock. The Griffen rad keeps temps very stable. I put a brand new OEM thermostat in last night.

Body has a couple little dings, which were there when I bought it. The car comes with the original hood as well as an aftermarket extraction hood. The windshield has 2 rock chips on the passenger side. They are not really visible to the driver. There was 1 when I bought the car. The 2nd occurred literally while I was en-route to a glass shop to get the windshield replaced when a dumptruck kicked up some gravel at me. I took that as an omen and did not replace the windshield. The soft top is an original type aftermarket and only a couple years old. Top is in great condition.

I have Hella E-codes installed with ebay HID lamps. I also have DRL type lamps built into the front turnsignals. The turn indicators were relocated to the outside of the lenses. There is a scrubby looking (but good sounding and functional) Pioneer Premier cd unit in the dash, very good Pioneer speakers in the doors, and an Alpine amp in the trunk.

I have used only synthetic oil since I purchased the car. Engine oil has been Mobil1. The rear is running Royal Purple. Red line in the trans.

If I get my asking price, I will include all the extra/spare parts I have, every stock part I've taken off the car, and the other aftermarket parts I've not yet installed. Some of the items included are an extra 15g turbo that I was going to send to GPOP shop to be rebuilt with a super60 compressor wheel and ported out.
A new 15g turbo rebuild kit from GPOP.
Webcams 505/505+2 camshafts ($500+ new).
Tien SS coil overs ($1000+ new)
FM Sway Bars
R package front lip
tunertoys large bore dual input fuel rail
2 Mazda top boots (one is missing a snap)
Mazda front bra
Plus whatever else I have in the garage.

I have the stock intake parts and exhaust manifold so the car could be brought back to N/A.
I also have tons of extra parts like another center console, an a/c compressor, original hood, extra aluminum diff housing, etc etc, really a couple boxes FULL of stuff. I'm not kidding. I have a mountain of parts to go with the car.

The car will NOT come with a hardtop and will NOT come with my 6UL wheels. I am going to aquire some sort of later model miata wheels to include with the sale. The Enthuza exhaust that is currently on the car also will not be included, as I'm just borrowing it from Enthuza. (it doesn't belong to me) I have a very nice looking and sounding dual exhaust with magnaflow hi flow cat that will go back on.

Car is currently tagged, registered, insured, as is street legal.

I'm looking for $6500 for the car. And again, if I get my asking price, I'll include all the spares/extras mentioned. This is a very fast car, and not for a new driver. Call me a 404.819.7098 to check it out.

Ben

Thank ya man. Yeah, totally unplanned. If the purchaser does not wish the hood, we can work something out between us.

OK well I put this ad up in anticipation of buying a turbo 99 this weekend. I was the 2nd person to respond to the ad, and the 1st person snapped it up today.

So, my 91 turbo is no longer for sale.

Yeah...I knew that 99AE turbo was the 'motivation'....and was a very good deal too.

ben91
10-24-2008, 02:38 PM
Yeah it was.

I kind of regret not getting Mark Peugeot's car last month, so this was almost a second chance.

RotorNutFD3S

Yep! Not only that, you have a lot of time and effort invested in your car. I personally can't wait to see it after you get done with your plans.

too bad man, we can still cleen your car this weekend

ben91
10-24-2008, 02:45 PM
That also means I get to install the suspension, which I'm sure will make a huge difference. I have the coil overs and FM sways. Figure I'll just install the front sway and use the rear as a... uhm I dunno I'll think of something.

I also could go ahead and send my spare turbo to GPOP to have it ported/polished and have the larger comp wheel installed. They're promising same/quicker spool and +30whp. Between that and the new cams I can also go ahead and put in, it should take me comfortably over 300 whp with pump gas on anyone's dyno. :D[hr]

yeah, after we get your alarm stuff situated. that would be really great.

ben91
10-24-2008, 02:48 PM

But I've got lifts at Mazmart and at my dad's shop if we want to do it on our 'tech day'.

Screw that, they're getting installed.

And really, I wasn't thinking. They have NB mounts on them, would have been fine on the 99 probably.

I need a rear sway XD I'm on the stock rear sway bar and an aftermarket front. Its got snap oversteer bad..

Good luck with the suspension install. I'm swinging by Chris's tomorrow as well.

What front bar and what suspension (and spring rated) are on the car now? Your rear springs may be too stiff.

Mike, I know that you can do suspension stuff with your eyes closed. Not to mention alignment. You want to come by as well? With a few people, we could get it knocked out really fast.

My car is a GA car since when it was purchased in late 90, so shouldn't be any stuck bolt or rust issues!

I have no clue about the front sway bar, and the springs are Racing Beat's. Shocks are Koni Sport adjustables.

New guy wants $8k for the car. I don't know what he paid, but it was less than $7500. We'll see.

He's also offering 2 tickets (from his frequent flyer program) from Atl to Dallas with purchase of the vehicle. Anyone want to drive a car back from Dallas? You know, have a little vacation? Drive from Dallas to Atlanta? See the country a little? The country you've always wanted to see? Cross the Mississippi river? Yeah, no?

I've spoken with the seller, got the VIN number, and applied for the auto loan.

The other logistics can be worked out once I've got a loan approval. Last time I applied for an auto loan with my bank, it took just a couple hours to get approved. Hopefully this one will go just as easily.

If the paperwork gets pushed through this week, then maybe next week would work. I don't know which would be more fun, to take time and check stuff out, sleep in a motel, or simply drive through the night. I'm thinking the latter as I haven't done that since when I was working for CarMax and I had to drive north of DC, exchange cars, and I made it back to NC before I had to pull over for the night. Didn't have a co-pilot for that one.

Hmm, I should be more specific:
$5500 for my car with the original hood and custom 2.75 to 2.25" dual exhaust. The aftermarket extraction hood is available separately for $250 (buyer gets 1st dibs, eric gets 2nd). The enthuza 3" exhaust is not available as it belongs to enthuza.

Hard top and 6UL wheels not included.

I will include a bunch of spares and extras that I have in my garage with the car.

I have over $10k in goodies in the car, not to mention the purchase price of the car itself. Helluva deal at $5500.

10-28-2008, 02:42 PM
Ben, what does your car have on it for suspension?
Is it stock? Looks lowish for stock, but some are.

Also, do it have some cooling issues without the extraction hood?

ben91
10-28-2008, 02:49 PM
Springs are aftermarket, Eibach. It's definitely lower than stock.
I've never had any overheating problems, but the extraction hood absolutely helped lower peak coolant temps in the summer during boosted runs when I had the original radiator. The car's now got a high end Griffen radiator. I also have the fans running "dual stage" as opposed to the factory single stage. It would be tough to overheat the car as it sits.

Now that it's cold out, I'm going to need to put the stock hood back on. It's moving so much air through at interstate speeds now, I can't get the car to stay up at temp with the heater on. :)

I think a car purchase should always involve a long drive and sometimes even a greyhound bus trip. I bought my Supra in LA and drove it back over the course of 3 days...those were 3 incredible days. We took it slow...saw the grand canyon and all that jazz. I picked up my Miata in Little Rock and drove it back the same night. The car didn't have windows and it got a little chilly late at night! I found the car on a Thursday, booked the flight on Friday, then flew from Atlanta to Charlotte to Dallas to Little Rock the next day to get the car. Fun!

Good luck with the purchase.

MeFryRice
10-31-2008, 07:53 AM
^^ I agree. I usually buy my cars out of state but the past two have been bought locally.

ben91
10-31-2008, 07:59 AM
The last year was a tough time to buy a car from out of state. Airline travel has been stressful and difficult making flying unfriendly. Gas prices were high making driving to pick it up uneconomical. Transport companies are always late to pick up and deliver and damage the vehicle a good bit of the time.

Luckily fuel is reasonable again and air travel has gone way down, especially if you book a few weeks out.

I am picking my new car up from Dallas in 2 weeks. Flying out Friday evening and driving back. Probably all in one shot to arrive Saturday morning.

But, I have gone on many long distance retrievals...1400+ one way miles and the like.
