Any experience with one of these?

I'd like to go EBC since I will be DDing my miata and want to turn down the boost when I am just driving to work.

cant the hydra do that? I'd be amazed, dumbfounded, and many other things as well if it could not.

What's wrong with that $2000 boost controller, the one that you already own? (you know, the one that also runs the injectors and coils) :)

It's a ***** to tune and no in-car control.

What kind of "in car control" are you looking for? Hi/Low boost?

Correct.

a switch would do it, at least plenty of guys do it with a megasquirt.

true, though Hydras EBC is setup with a bunch of nonsensical PID values and stuff, and my tuner said it's better off just getting a standalone to do it, and would do a simplier job as well.

ive been debateing my self to either go with megasquirt boost control or the Greddy still in the air

but what about that FM support

actually, now that I think about it, they recommended a manual boost controller themselves...

IMO, you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least attempt to get it going with the Hydra. There are tons of benefits of having your engine computer run boost control... boost decrease with intake temp, boost cut by knock, boost control by gear, anti-slip etc. Plus then you get to datalog wastegate duty against map/rpm/gear etc with the hydra.

Closed loop works if tuned properly.

Or you can always use open loop.

And run either a 2 or 3 way toggle switch in the cabin.

2 way:
disconnect ebc (wastegate only)
connect ebc (full ebc)

3 way:
disconnect ebc
map 1, "mid boost" ebc
map 2, "high boost" ebc

Or do what I do, right foot = MAP

When we tuned my silver car on the dyno and it was making just under 260 at the wheels at 14 psi, I thought I was going to want to install a ebc cut off switch. But I never did. Not once when I was driving the car did I say to myself, "gee I wish I had LESS power now."

Jeremy specifically told me not to use the EBC system on the Hydra. He recommended an MBC. Unless I wanted to tune the car every season change that is.

I don't sound so crazy and lazy now. Thanks for the save!!

Unless I wanted to tune the car every season change that is.Honestly that sounds more like he doesn't want to deal with supporting it, because realistically tuning closed loop will be harder than what most people can handle. Once closed loop is down, then you should never have to touch it. That's the point.

You might have to tweak open loop a little. And that's easy; you just alter duty cycle on a 2d map. This is what he means by re-tune. You're not retuning the entire fuel and spark maps. You're just making some tweaks to your ebc duty cycle table. Eaaasssyyy.

Run EBC. You'll spool better. It's worth the hassle, and it's not that hard if you're smart.

And if you've got the solenoid already, it's free.

And to put my $ where my @ss is, I'm happy to figure out the hydra boost control stuff and help tune it. ****, I got it going good on my car with a freakin $700 megasquirt. Can't a Hydra at 3x the cost also do it? ;)
