Still can't decide if i want to sign up for the PDX or not...If I only knew what the stipulations of working and driving were. I mean, if i sign up as a worker, do I just show up and they put me somewhere? I've never worked an event up there.....thought i would really like to.

They will probably assign you with someone on saturday that knows what they are doing and they will teach you what is going on. I had a buddy do a pdx a few months ago and he said it was well worth it. He learned a lot from the intsructor, got a log book which is what is needed to progress to the c group at some point.
BTW the 95 MPH limit makes a whole lot of sense in a street car when you are driving someone else (instructor). If you progress to c group in a stock car with stock safety stuff then go nuts with your OWN life. I've been at over 110 on the back stretch at RA with a bone stock 99. I will not do it again w/o proper safety stuff.

The pdx/worker arrangement sounds like a deal to me. Race action and driving action. I know several guys who've done it and love it. I instruct for the pdx when I'm not under the car between sessions. Never seen anybody come in after a session of Rd. Atl in their car without a big *** smile from ear to ear. :D

I don't know where they'd put me... i have various track experiance..from drift, auto-x and been out to TGP a few times. Dunno if any of that counts toward c-class. I do have a nice rollbar and 6-point harnesses... if that's the safety equipment you speak of. Matt B. can vouch that i'm a safe fast driver on the track :)
(something tells me that my car will do every bit of 140mph on the bck straight)

Only problem is that it's a double hoop. It would be up to the guy teching the car and the instructor whether or not it'd be allowed on track. You wouldn't be the 1st to have that problem.

If you have a log book from other licensed instructors that have signed off they may take that into consideration but I doubt they would let you into c group unless you have driving school experience. They will start you a log book and you may be able to advance quicker with your experience. I would think your bar would be ok it is solo approved. Let us know what they say about it, this is the bar I really want. Do you meet the 2 inch clearance requirement with helmet on?
Still worth it I think. 95 may seem slow down the back but it is faster than you would want to go the rest of the way around.

OK, i don't get it. I was goign through the process of signing up via DLBRacing and it's saying that I need to pay $50? I thought the workers get compensated and you end up with like $20 at the end of the weekend? I'd ask on soloatlanta, but it seems the site is down.....

The verdict is in and the plan as it stands now is to "go racing"
We usually set up in the lower end of the paddock near turn 1. Look for the black & Red #8 E30 and come say hello. Hopefully we dont have any issues with the car and will have some time for hanging out

Damn,
Just pulled the schedule of events...Seems our Pro IT race is on FRIDAY at 1:00. Makes it tuff on those of us with jobs to get there, registration closes at 2:00 (I have a long history of gripes with the SCCA registration process, ugh). They are gonna have "track touring" Friday at lunch time, which is fun especially if you havent had a lap out there.
We arent running the Enduro so we'll be done for the weekend before lunch on Saturday
simontibbett
11-05-2008, 09:49 AM
LOL @ track touring, where is Matt (BMW) we had some nice driving in that last time LOLOL.
I'll be there starting tom. for the test day. But not doing the PDX, SCCA is starting to make me mad with their non-wheel to wheel activities. Like the Solo 2 schedule, new PDX rules, etc.
Grantri
11-05-2008, 10:34 AM
We'll miss the test day,
I know this is a fairly big weekend but its damn near impossible for us to take two full days off work to go spend money at the track. Sometimes it seems as though "teh club" has its collective head in its ***. I've had to pay to get in the damn gates because I couldnt get to the track by end of registration (Friday at noon) and we've had some other issues with silly crap. I've spoken to some of the higher ups and invariably the answers are "Well its the way we have always done it"
One woul think every effort would be made to accomadate those folks who actually put cars on the tracks & pay entrance fees etc. .. Pointless rant I suppose and I'll pay my damn membership again next year but sometimes it just seems like they miss the boat.
amaff
11-05-2008, 10:35 AM
Why don't you put that in a letter to the execs of the club?
Grantri
11-05-2008, 11:09 AM
BTDT....Car owner has done so as well and we have both spoken to officials at various events regarding a few issues
Responses tend to be along the same old lines "It's the way we've always done it "and "Well it IS a volunteer organization"
They are certainly slow to change

Had a damn good weekend..
We wont Friday's Pro IT , had a great battle with David Stillman's 240Z . Passed him on lap 13 and managed to hold on for the win . Took third in class in the AARC, Stillman managed to get by us early and we couldnt get back by, had a pretty large "off" in turn 3-4 but managed to catch back up but still couldnt get by. The gray 944 smoked the ITS field , nobody had anything for him . We sat at Saturday night's award ceremony forever and were finally told that our group's race had yet to be declared official and the stewards had left for the evening (ugh) . No one was held in impound so I have no idea what the issue was. We packed up and headed home Saturday night
We are still chasing the intermittent miss demon, the list of parts we havent replaced is short than the list we have. Seems like the issue is a broken or skinned wire in the car are gonna yank all the wires out from under the dash and rewire it all point to point to prepare for Feb.
Met deerock,Matt & his buddies , saw Doppleganger's car pass by (waved) but of course I was on foot & he had no idea who I was .
Great weekend

Sorry man, when i'm driving around the paddock i'm looking all over the place to make sure no one is goign to jump out in front of me....which you practically need to do to get my attention
I had fun flagging #9 and Sat. and #1 on Sun (note to self -get something to cover ears). There were a couple fiascos, but nothing major. Obviously the best part of the weekend was running the pdx on sunday. I managed to see my speedo hit 135 banana and found out that my Hawk HP+ pads don't like that.... so i slowed it down to 120 on the back straight. I met as lot of very nice people and will be back in Feb :)
Jenn came out and took some pics of the PDX too :) But I don't have access to the link here at work :(. I'll post them in the pics section when I get home!

No worries...driving around in the paddock takes as much concentration as driving on the damn track. Scooters, pedestrians, scantily clad women, hot cars , race cars with limited vis, huge transports etc.....Cant imagine whay you wouldnt have seen some unshaven forty something track rat dude wave atcha..
Good to know they ok'ed your roll bar for the PDX , I need get one in my car and go up and work one weekend when we arent racing so I can "play".. Track touring is fun but I really wanted by that damn minivan in turn 5 .

RA is fun in general. The big 3 are the Mitty, the Petit (obv) and the ARRC. Then there's the WERA and Drift events, along with usually a few SCCA Regional and National races. There's plenty of action up there to be had, most of it (save Petit) can be had very cheaply as well.

the comment...what did you want me to do, back off? uhh, YES....we had the line, and we were ahead. the 'rules' of racing are that you back the **** off...it's the first lap, there were going to be plenty of other chances to pass each other....

Yeah...our little "accident" was worth about $3300 and untold hours of hammer swinging, swearing, inspecting and replacing parts... and the car is now just " straight enough" as opposed to being straight. Race cars do occasionally get wrecked it just sucks when its pointless. Had the other guy just held his line on the outside he would have easily pulled us up the hill into two and been gone.
On the good side nobody got hurt we got the car back together and we are still racing
