What have you lot ran and how did they sound? Got any video clips? I'm contemplating a new back box and would like to hear what you lot have to say. I'm really quite a fan of the stock sound, so maybe a more emphatic version is what I'm looking for.

Way back I autoXed a 91 in CS and ran a supertrapp. Much like adjustable shocks, it did a good job of serving both duties- I removed all the discs when I was autoXing and then just reinstalled them to quiet things back down. Removing all the discs essentially made it a straight pipe. It was loud with discs in - but definitely livable.

You know how I feel about the subject, Jack. Flowmaster 40 all the way.

I've been wanting to get a different tone out of mine as well..
They had a list on M.net a while ago. I'll look for it later.

I quite like the sound of the flowmaster 60 too.

The racingbeat ones normally sound a bit much to me.

For what it's worth, an Enthuza XR Lightweight should be considered for track use only, in my opinion.
It's loud. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kwTZ1gSH4I)
I might try out the Flyin' Miata muffler, since it's made by Thermal R&D and I like the stuff they sell.

Does anybody on here have the BEGi center exit exhaust? I haven't been able to find any sound clips of it.

I had FM duals on an NB, they were okay. Nothing exceptional about them, but nothing bad either. IMHO the FM/Thermal stuff is a bit over priced.
For an NA I prefer Racing Beat resonated version, or Borla. This is without other mods.
To be honest, for an inexpensive setup I wouldnt hesitate to use an OBX catback on an NA, but the tip needs changed to be less rice-tastic.
For a turbo etc then none of those will suffice. Enthuza is hard to beat valuewise.

Its a full 3" no cat turbo exhaust and without a turbo will be louder then HELL :D

^ Yeah that's what I thought. I was mainly trying to find better pictures of it to use as an example when I go to get one fabricated. There's a guy here in Covington that does a lot of custom exhaust stuff for hotrods/track cars/whatever.
Probably going to just do a Flowmaster 40 or Super 40 like before but with 2.5in. piping this time instead of 2.25 (in anticipation of the blower). My old NA had a really unique, raspy sound with that setup that straight through mufflers don't have.

Actually, it's called "the Stumpy"
Is it loud? OMG yes haha. Is it unbearable? For a 15 minute commute, or on the way to an event? Not really. For anything other than that, yes, it would get old fast. HOWEVER, I have verified power gains (not much, but better than nothing) with this thing, AND it weighs less than 6 lbs, so for a pretty much dedicated car, it's hard to beat (and only cost about $70 for all the parts + a couple beers for a friend to weld it)
EDIT: It's great for scaring old people, pets, small children, and just skittish pedestrians. If I time the shifts just right, it'll make a fairly significant pop on each upshift. I've had at least 1 guy duck for a particularly enthusiastic pop (honestly, it surprised me, sounded like a gunshot under my ***). I like it though, because the exhaust is extremely talkative (burbles on decel, pops, vastly different notes for constant throttle, acceleration, etc) so it's just another way for me to be in tune w/ what the car's doing on course.

Remember that phone call during the Doublecross a couple months back that you got on a Saturday regarding a spectacular front lower ball joint failure?

Lower left ball joint failed during 1 of my 4 co-drivers' runs on Saturday of the double cross, causing significant structural damage to that wheel and tweaking an inner tie rod end. We had to push the car off course with a wheel dolly under that corner. I finally managed to track down a ball joint I could use down by about 5:30. My co-driver drove me up to Lawrenceville to pick it up, then back down to AMS after stopping for dinner. Got back around 10:00, replaced the ball joint @ AMS by the light from car headlights thanks to a couple friends, and a headlamp, and by 10:30 I'd gotten the car back in driveable condition for competition runs on Sunday. It was one of those autocrosses where I don't even remember how I finished, but I remember how a good group of folks helped get my car back on its feet :)

Actually I agree. Cheap aftermarket part failure was to blame. I managed to find a Spec Miata buddy of mine in town that weekend that had a couple good ones laying around :)
I've got a Flowmaster 44 without a resonator on my 94. Only real issue is the drone at 55 - 60 mph under load. Other than that, its great.

If anyone wants to hear super loudness, goto youtube and type "miata acceleration" and you'll find the video of my green/orange car accelerating down a truck lane. It was intended to show off the overly loud supercharger whine and BOV. The exhaust was a brainstorm dual muffler, OBX header and a straight mid-pipe. It was def. a sound that would have been far more at home at somewhere like RA.

Car came with the FM turbo duals, but I have heard the n/a duals and single, and they all sound really good. They get all their mufflers from Thermal R&D, which have always had good tones. I had one on my turbo Saturn as well.
Now I have the Enthuza 3" duals with 2 Ansa mufflers. Don't know how that sounds yet. Can't wait to find out though!

I HATE DUAL EXHAUST!!! GAY GAY GAY!!! ESPECIALLY ON MARINER BLUE CARS!!!! :butt:
the only input i have on this subject is that my no-name ebayDM muffler on my 1.6 sounded like a weed wacker. it sucked.
i dont have that problem anymore though, just the sexy sexy sound of an m20 :)

I have the racing beat duals with the non resonated mid pipe and love them. Now, if I could just fix the exhaust leak at the cat/header...
