View Full Version : Could you pass a driving test?

We always talk about how bad other drivers are but how would you fair if you were to retake the test today?
If you are like most of us, you look back at your first DMV-issued driving test – that one you took with a dull nub of a pencil while standing in a crowded room – and remember racking your brain over questions that not only made no sense, but some that were downright confusing. Whether we approve of the age-old process or not, everyone eventually passes their first driving test (and it seems many forget everything the moment they hit the highways).
Now that you are well-seasoned driver with years (or decades) of experience under your seatbelt, and you know all the rules of the road, the folks over at AutoInsurance.org are offering you a chance to take a quick driving test all over again. Don't worry, this isn't a government-issued quiz (we can't recall our local DMV ever giving us a multiple-choice test with "flip him the bird" as a potential answer), and it won't count on your driving record. However, it will make you ponder about a few rules of the road that many of us have tossed into the cobweb-laden parts of our brains. Go ahead, take the test (http://www.autoinsurance.org/driving_test/), and brag about your results in our comments section!

I did retake the test when I moved to Indiana. I had no idea I had to take it until I walked in that day. Passed with flying colors.

I had to take the GA test when I got here... right behind a lady from Spain and a lady from Korea. Both were FOB, and the tester was happy when I said "Good morning" in a language she understood.
And neither lady passed the driving portion of the test. Neither could understand the tester when she said "go to the stop sign and turn right". Both turned left, auto-fail...
And I took the linked test... apparently it is time for me to bone up on fire truck following distances and parking from stop sign distances.

lol
I didn't have to take mine again when I moved to GA. They just took my old license and gave me a GA one. I did have to spend a lovely few minutes arguing with the clerk about the validity of my birth certificate. I told her "Look, I can get you another one from the state of SC but it's going to look just like this one. This is just how it is." She finally gave in after a few more exchanges and me offering to call the records office and explain to her what an SC birth certificate looks like.

They totally busted my chops about having a "proof of residence" in GA, yet the guy in front of me they say "are you a citizen" and he goes "Si, senorita" and they questioned him no further. I mean I actually had to call my cousin at the house and get him out of bed to bring me a bill that was in my name to prove I lived there... maybe I should have just said "Si" and looked dumb...

It does have a raised seal. Looks as real as can be... probably because it is. lol
It was good enough for my passport, my licenses in other states, countless things but the GA DMV.... oh no.. they have very strict standards. lol

Although an amusing topic and fun test to take, and useful for learning some basic safety rules, I would say that written tests dont indicate much at all about ones driving skills. I used to interview, test, and hire truck drivers. Often those who did very well on written or asked questions totally sucked when it came time to drive. Others who didnt test so well were actually excellent drivers. One time when I refused to hire a potential driver who tested well because in my opinion he sucked at actual driving, I was over ruled by a company co-owner. Within a week that driver flipped a truck. Luckily no one was killed. Given the spot where
it happened that was dumb luck too.
My 16 yr old daughter passed these written driving tests easily with 100's. However, honestly, she sucks at driving. She makes many elementary mistakes.
I wont even ride with her if I can help it

The illegals are known to have friends at the DMV.
Personally, I think the driving test itself should require some sort of defensive driving course/autocross.

Reminds me of a funny story. My 50 something year old stepfather had to take his driver's test for renewal. So I rode with him down to the DMV and then when it came time for him to take his test I went and got the truck. The state trooper went nuts because he thought I was the one taking the test... Took us 10 minutes to explain that the grey haired almost AARP member was the one that needed the test and not the 17 yr old.

I'm pretty sure you are right on the money there... They both had teens with them, so maybe the kids were more astute at turning right than the mom's and could drive home.

I was 17 when I moved here from Utah. The lady told me that I could retake the test to get my GA license or wait until I was 18 and they'll just switch it over. Needless to say, I waited until I was 18.

 I passed but whenever the numbers came up I got a few of them wrong.
I remember I got points taken off during the test for doing the instructions before the instructor said 'em. This was mainly due to practicing the course a few too many times and knew what was coming.

I just used my passport, which usually trumps everything to be shown, no problems down here.
I"ve never really taken a driving test other than in this driving school I had to go to, which was cake. otherwise its mainly filling out forms to get my license in different states\countries
