New people on here giving the .02 kinda makes me laugh considering the knowledgeable ones know me in person and know that i ask questions for answers not some johnny come lately with a beat *** Miata that just got the car

plus to hate a car is to hate the driver and well, not may people that know me and the story of my car hate me or my car.

its confusing to many why i choose to stand out. its because im a leader not a follower... and guess what... people are copying the graffiti now so now, with that being done, im switching it up... 1 step ahead of the game, my style is my style i create not copy

my car runs great it handles to my liking (with what little its has been done to the suspension)

its never died its never given me problem (concerns yes but not problems)

and ill be god damned if everywhere i go theres not 1 person that comments, complements, or just all out thinks its THE MOST unique one they have ever seen.

this is a forum for discussion, help, trouble shooting, etc. etc. not bashing and name calling, leave that to I.A. or elementary school.

now I'm not from a motor head family OR had grown up with any motor head friends
IM still learning, and pardon me for asking opinions, questions and options....
If questions were stupid then there would be no knowledge, no progression, no advancement; and if i want to be taken seriously i have to learn from those around me, and build my knowledge through mistakes and dumb ****.... im not afraid to ask "stupid questions" because the next time someone brings it up i can help further that new guys knowledge....

when you see a "stupid post" (I.A. not counting because thats %100 of the topics)
think about where you started.. you weren't born with the knowledge and god damn it don't try and bring someone down in there search for answers... lend a hand walk them through... who knows the guy you help out could be the next F1 driver and i know if i ever go somewhere with this lifestyle ill die before i let everyone that helped me go un-thanked.

theres my $300 worth... now think about that.

(this isn't wasn't and never will be directed towards any one person THIS IS FOR EVERYONE)

I am not sure if answer number 3 or 4 works for me...so I answered passion.
I have been into cars since I was a little fellow. As a kid if not riding a bicycle I was playing with toy cars...whether matchbox or hotwheels (when they were invented) or building plastic models. Never cared for airplanes or boats...just CARS....and trucks too...as my family is in the trucking business.

No one taught me anything...my dad is an idiot with cars, my brother is knowledgeable but older then I so wasnt at home to teach me. I am self taught...WITH the help of making friends with those who are highly knowledgeable...AND asking questions. For the record...I have never posted on m.net or similar a response such as "thats a stupid question" or "do a search" etc to a newbie. EVERYONE was a newbie at some point. Period.

When I bought my first real car I immediately began thinking of ways to 'mod' it..and started working on it as far as possible. It all went from there. Early on I bought an MGB...and god knows you have to work on those CONSTANTLY. That was my baptism. It went from there to muscle cars and classics....then Corvettes...and ultimately Miatas. I have made my living from cars too...so to me there is no mechanical device of greater interest. :)

My dad's side of my family is where I got it from.
2 of my Uncles are automotive journalists, and their dad was an engineer for Ford.

Ever since I can remember my dad has taken my little brother and I to car shows, races, auctions, etc.
When we are at the dinner table, all we do is talk about cars. My mom and sister get sick of it and start talking about make-up or other girly stuff!

I've been around it my entire life and it's just become a part of me now. If I wasn't into car, I have no idea what I would do with all my time!

rite on! i wish i had that.. but its more the opposite for me. Everyone discusses other things... and just nods when i talk about cars... my moms boy fried (the previous owner of the miata) will chit chat.. but hes bad about bull****ting sometimes so i try to keep the discussions simple. there actually was an argument over motor oil one nite... and i even dropped research into it and he was still rite or so he thought

I meant to add that my ultimate dream is to one day own a 240 turd bucket with purple wheels. Only I hope to extend the exhaust at least 4 feet beyond the bumper and have the steering column extended so I can sit in the back seat and drive. But at this point all that is only a dream. ;)

well i dont have a huge family history of cars or anything, my dad and his were always relatively inot cars but nothing serious. i grew up around big trucks and my grandpa had a 56 chevy that he restored, but i had always thought rally was the coolest thing in the world. i was always amazed at how suspensions worked and thought handling was more important than raw power.

nik, you and me are cool and we share alot of ideas as well as differences. if i offended you in the other thread, my bad lol.

Well, I didn't get it from my parents ,that's for sure. I mean, my dad did tell me stories of his 64 Galaxie 500 Custom, his 67 Cougar and other neat "wish I had it now" cars. I also remember being driven around in our Datsun 510 as a small child.....wish they would have kept that car too. But once I was old enough to understand things with wheels, I was on my own. I started with a go-cart when I was like 13. That thing was well modded and built...all done by myself. Even back then, I had a fascination for sliding the back end around as much as possible. Somehow or another I picked up Sport Compact Car when I was 15 and from there I was hooked.

I remember not knowing anything about my RX-7..and now I know a good bit. Same goes for when I picked up my first Miata. I clearly remember thinking "Oh fun, I don't know anything about this car" and feeling that I was starting all over again with the learning process. But look where I am now 6 years later..and countless questions. I did really read as much as possible before asking questions though, and I did try to avoid th every obvious stuff.... but I also happen to be more mechanically inclined than your average Joe. It really is hard not to laugh or be snide when you see the same questions day in and day out...and yes, sometimes my fingers get the best of me. But there are some things like "My tire looks low, what should I do?" questions that...well.... I don't need to say more. I do respond/help people partiall based on how they come off too. Someone who is genuinely asking something, and takes the time to explain why they are looking for XXXX information will get a serious answer from me. But people who are too lazy to even try to show a general comprehension of the English language shows me that their lazy people and probably aren't even going to listen to any serious replies.

I grew up around cars. Classic and modern alike. Somewhat because of my dad. Some of my first reading material was the auto magazines that came to the house on a monthly basis. My neighbors all have at least 2 projects going on at one time, ranging from old hot rods to newer 'Vettes. I love muscle cars more than I do 4-cylinders, but the latter are usually easier to deal with and are better on gas. I became a boost junkie at the age of 15 when I took a ride in my neighbor's twin turbo'd WS-6 T/A. I absolutely love to take stuff apart and put it back together again. I love rotary engines because they are out of the ordinary. I built a turbo Saturn sedan because not many others had. I love cars because no matter what you do, there is always something more to learn. No one knows it all.

But since we're being real, you are not the first person to graffiti a car, a Miata, probably. But it's been done, and in Atlanta too. Just like having a boosted, flared, 002'd Miata is not out of the ordinary, and the guy claiming he started that trend got flamed to hell and back on m.net. We do what we do to cars not because it's something new, it's very rare to bring something new to the automotive table, we do it to make the car distinctive to ourselves. If someone says that your car is the most unique that they've ever seen, great, compliments to you. I bet there are a lot of people that can claim that as well.

Concerning you as a person, the one time I met you, I tried to introduce myself and hand you a stack of business cards so you could have some to pass out, what did you do? You brushed my greeting off, looked back at the people you were around, and said, "I already have those." Really? That's funny, I just had them printed. You? "Oh, I made some myself." Awesome excuse. Then, you talked down to my friend, who is trying to get into the world of modifying Miatas, like you knew it all. Well, that's at least the way it was taken by him and explained to me, and I believed him because of my first personal impression of you. Now I don't hate you or your car, before I met you in person, I thought you'd be a pretty cool guy judging by most of your posts here, but now I think you have a lot of learning to do before you go passing on knowledge. This is not a personal attack, I'm just trying to get you to stop for a second so you can see how people that have just met you react to you.

I actually love your car man :) I love the graffiti/tattoo look of it!

Well I got into cars in highschool. I had a 1978 Jeep CJ7 and I was constantly replacing parts and buying new things to go offroading.
After graduation I attended Lanier Tech for 2 years and go a degree in Motorsports Vehicle Technology. I then worked for a few race teams/manufacturers like the Panoz Racing School and Elan Motorsports Technologies. After that I switched career paths and went into law enforcement where my 'car days' kinda died down.

ok im sorry man. really im coming from the DJ life where ppl come up and just start talking... you kinda did that while ppl were talking... and ya diddnt say who ya were, i wasnt being rude i was trying not to be rude to my friend who was talking... and sorry if i printed up cards of my own, next time ill make everyone els spend there money on promotional items
I have no problem admitting i was wrong to blow you off and believe me i did notice i did it and felt bad. if i do it... its not you its me!

BUT EVERYONE FYI, if im out and about INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND WHO YOU ARE, i love meeting people... but dont just jump in and try and seem like everyone knows you... odds are someone is going to come off course because he/she is trying to get you to spit out who you are.

again SORRY next time just say "Hey". if you wanna chill or work on promoting Just say so, im always down for it.

Now im sorry i offended your cards man but... ANYONE can print business cards and MX5atlanta posted a card size desighn a while back, I thought you just made them yourself and were passing out YOUR copies, i was trying to save you some time and money... i know i can only print about 20 at a time before my hands hurt from folding and seperating them, so dont take my 1st hello as a getting to know me, talk to me 1-0-1 before you "KNOW ME".

AND IM DEF. NOT THE 1st to graffiti a car... but my STYLE my method is the one of its own kind, that makes it a 1st... hate it or not the people who know cars know that its not just B.S artwork.... theres over 72 hours of art on the car, and most of the others ive seen were 1-2 hour jobs...

and whos your friend? why talk to ME about modding a miata.. ill flat out say if i offended him the 1st time, that quick then someone needs to learn sarcasm and how it works, because i joke around like i know you even if i don't, so if your gonna get your feelings hurt then stay away from me "IM AN *******" if ya want my .02 cents then JOIN A FORUM AND DON'T ASK THE NEW GUY TO HELP YOU GET INTO A CAR WHEN THEY ARE JUST LEARNING ABOUT THEM AS WELL tell them to join here and socialize...
Before i jumped into the life i had met a chosen few from before cars... so dont be afraid to say hey but if i make a comment, by all means, attack back! thats how you'll get my respect... no back bone, no guts = no fun.

what doesn't kill you makes you stronger... i was raised that way and its not changing.... like me or not...

I understand. I did however do what I normally do, and waited until you looked at me and acknowledged that I was standing there (feeling somewhat out of place as I do anytime I'm around IA meets). lol I wasn't trying to jump in or interrupt your work, talking, etc. Just wanted to say Hi, nice to actually put a face to the name, here's come cards, see you around when you aren't busy. Didn't quite go that way, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and if our paths cross again, maybe things will go differently.

No reason to apologize for your own printing of some business cards, that's a good thing to do. You just made it sound like you already had what I was giving out, which was slightly impossible at the time. A misunderstanding at the most. And what I gave you is the "Jack Approved" copies that I had mass printed to save everyone some time and effort. :)

I don't think what you've done is BS artwork, I've seen the ways people can cheat the work, keep up what you do since you love it. All that matters is that you are happy to walk out to your car and enjoy seeing it.

Overall, just keep in mind one thing, especially at meets, car shows, and the like: people are going to come up to you and randomly ask questions, talk to you, etc., especially when you have a car that interests them. Their first impression of you is going to have a direct impact on what they take away from the experience. My buddy for instance said that you seemed like a pretty cool guy, but hoped that the way you came off is not normal for Miata owners. It's that simple to influence someone.

My dad and I have always shared an interest in cars, in fact the first thing he did when I was born was hand my mum a sales brochure for a brand new Alfa at the time. So there's always been a passion for it and driving. Although, I am the only one to ever show as much drive to do my own to cars and modify them. I know alot more mechanically and have done alot more than my dad ever will.

I remember dreaming of owning a 1.3 litre rx7 when I was younger, it was me thinking the 1.3 litre part would cheat the ridiculous insurance in England, but with my driving test so far away it was nothing but a dream. But once I found out you could get your permit at 15 in America... :D I was a happy bunny and spent time every day trying to plan out my first car.

I love cars. I love to drive them, to work on them, to race them, to watch them. Pretty much everything really.

i played with matchbox and hotwheels cars starting from when i was old enough to walk. we never owned any performance cars growing up, but my dad talked about cars, worked on our cars, and occasionally took me to car shows when i was young. it wasn't until i was in highschool that i found out that my dad had been a grassroots-level racer back before he met my mother and had owned a number of second-hand euro sports cars. he had seven of them when he got married, but had to sell them all to pay the medical bills when i was born. no insurance ftl.

my dad and i were together one night at wendy's back in 1989 when we saw our first miata - neither of us had any idea what it was, and didn't recognize the logo on the nose. i thought it was awesome. my dad wondered if it was a lotus, because it reminded him of the old elan.

in college i worked as a valet and drove thousands of cars, quickly realizing that the vast majority of which were simply rolling appliances. a few though really stood out - porsches, bmw's... and miatas. i remember how surprised i was the first time i drove a miata (which by that time had firmly been stigmatized as a fag car) - everything about the car was just right to me. the seating position was just right, the shifter was perfect, the steering felt dead on, the engine made all the right sounds. i knew immediately that i would eventually own one, just the way i knew i'd own a three series bmw the very first time i drove one.

ive always loved cars, and will continue to love them.

i grew up with my dad owning many different muscle cars. corvetts, chevelles, novas, etc..
ive always wanted to own cars that i particularly "wanted" to own. i do my best everyday to keep my current love (my miata) running, and make it stronger better faster and better looking. i got into cars because i learned how to drive when i was 3. my first car i ever drove was a 1966 chevrolet chevelle SS. 4 on the floor. of course it was on my dads lap, cause idk any 3 year olds who can actually drive a 4spd by themselves. i love racing, any kind. i got to RA as much as possible, because its a blast.

so ive been into cars for quite sometime. and i always meet new people through them. and i have respect for all of you that share the same love.

Speaking of hotwheels, i remember as a kid having a bunch of 1/24 cars that i'd give a good shove across the floors and try to get to slide and hook around the corner of the hallway into the kitchen... maybe an early sign of my facsination with driving hard and sliding cars? hmmmmm

Well......my high school car was a '65 GTO convertible. I didn't appreciate it because my parents picked it out, but it was great for loading up with girls going to and from school. One of my best friends had an MG Midget, and I always thought it handled so much better than the Pontiac. Hmmm... That summer I traded the GTO for a '59 VW Van with a squareback dual carb engine and way too fat back tires. It would run over 80, which was a big deal for VW van. Not that any of y'all would have any idea, I bet. At the end of the summer it got rear-ended, and I bought a Beetle. Boring as hell, sold it after a while and got a deal on '62 MG Midget, from the original owner, 60,000 miles. I had to pay $300 for it. Between that and the VW's I learned to work on cars, more out of necessity than anything else, being young and poor. That began my long obsession with British cars, more Midgets than I can count, three bugeye Sprites, a couple of MGB's. In '78 there was an article in Road & Track about a new Mazda coming out, the RX7. I got kind of excited, called a dealer, and went and put down a $50 deposit. I was number nine on the list. The first three cars came in, I wanted a cheap base model, after a week the dealer called and said I could have one of them. I thought I was hot stuff that summer. But after a while something new comes along, and along the way I went through a couple of the first generation GTI's, then the first generation CRX SI, the onto Acura Integra's and a Civic SI or two. Then '89 rolled around and Mazda does it again with the Miata. I was hot for one, but resisted the urge to pay way over dealer list for the privilege. I had bought that first RX7 for $6395, no mark-up, and I just could not justify it. I waited until '92 to buy my first Miata. After five years I thought I should get a family car, so I did. Big mistake. Missed the Miata the next day. Could not afford a new one right then, bought an '86 MR2 and did some work on it. But never trusted mid-engine, they can bite. So in 2000 I bought a '95 Miata that I still have and won't get rid of. My son has been riding in one since he was three months old. Y'all know him here. He has a '97 Miata, after his first car, an MG Midget (what else?). And I never quite got over the British car thing, I also have a cherry '72 Morris Mini Van that some of you have seen. Also, I forgot the Italian cars, had '65 Alfa Guiletta in the '70's, and right now have a Fiat X1/9. Guess I didn't learn the first time about mid-engine cars so I am experimenting. So the cars sucked me in big time, and have my friend in the MG Midget, and another friend from way back with a '67 MGB, to blame.

I got into cars when I was too little, first race was the St.Petersburg GP in Florida when I used to live there, and grew up around boats and cars as that's all my dad did. I started karting when I was a todler...ok jk when I was like 10 or so, don't remember exact age. Got my first car @ 14 to build for SCCA, made it a ITC car, started autocross @ 15, ran Red Bull F1 DS, enduro karts, test drove a 250cc superkart, etc. Ran my ITC Civic right when I turned 16, talked my way into some test drives, met lots of people, story went on from there. Still trying to move up the ladder, get great offers all the time, except in the US when you get invited to run @ Petit Le Mans you PAY and I have not found a pro drive or anything free yet other then like I said some test drives and karting things. But it's fun. IT'S ALL OF MY DADS FAULT THAT I AM INTO RACING.

I am 20 now.

All three
you could say im a born and raised motorhead
I was raised into being a mechanic from my dad and given the "Bunta treatment" working on and fixing cars that ranged from my moms 5spd sentra se-r,& chevy van,to my dads WRC rally evos, 9 sec. chevys and supras, classic malibu lowriders and one -off hot rods.
I was taught to drive in both a 65 elcamino and an evo 5. my first car , the el camino was rebuilt from junkyard parts and my own hands using my tools and the knowledge given to me from pop. a turbo charged carburetted straight six chevy di the trick through HS. i graduated highschool at 17 and already had a cert. in aircraft turbine tech. and maint. at around 19 i had an A&P, a year in the reserve, and a need to work on cars . after i left the aircraft world the import bug bit me and I started building hot rod imports in san anto. I snagged a few more cert.s at st. philip's college in San Antonio TX before deciding to come to Atlanta to hopefully start a performance shop or work with a shop after my dad retired and denied me ownership of his prized evo5(which he sold shortly after) or a part of his shop.(which he also sold ... for a tractorand a ranch)seriously tho he's an awesome guy.
ive never been given anything but chances to make my own success and never really had any money. just a need to make things faster, smarter louder, slicker etc.
I ve always loved to tinker and build things and ive never thought that something couldnt be done to a car.if its got wings wheels or fins ive probably worked on one.
ive owned and built:
65 elcamino(350+ whp)
96 suburban(full media system)
79 olds cutlass supreme(iasca pro SQ car)
00' yamaha vstar(barhopper)
3 rx7s(the ratx7's)
73 1303s(rally beetle 120hp 130mph)
98 vw beetle(mon's crazy paint car)
currently ill be co owning a 90 miata

I now run the Fry's elec. install bay as a soon to be recert. master having fun with the electrical side of autos.
like ive expressed before i love discussing ideas and methods that improve on the performance of automobiles in general and I cant see myself doing anything else, im so glad my girl puts up with it.

I can thank my father for my love of cars because of all the sports car races he would take me to, and I'll never forget the first time I saw a photo of a 65 Shelby cobra it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, but My passion for cars stared when I went to the first ALMS Petit Lemans event in 1997 with the beauty, technology, and integrity, since then I have found myself immersed in everything to do with cars, and racing. To me it’s like a drug, I find myself always thinking of my next fix, my next auto X, my next track day, my next 10/10ths drive though the mountains, and If you see me bolting up 85 between 126 and 129 (hwy 53) I’m not look’ in for a race It’s just my “hold me over” small dose so I don’t go in to withdrawal.
