A website is using my car as their category picture for Mazda Miatas, and when you click into the category, there's an even larger picture of my car. I can tell they probably yanked it off of CarDomain since the image size and quality matches. So I could have some options since they did not ask for my permission to use it (it is the internet afterall, happens all the time).

1. Ask that they take it down as they are not the owners of the picture.
2. Ask that if they continue to use said picture, they pay for rights to it. (We all know they'd take it down and use another image they snag of the internet. lol)
3. Be happy that my car is being used on a website.

I don't actually really care, just wonder what some of you would do in the same situation.

Here's the website: http://www.modacar.com/new/catalog/Mazda-10-1.html

x3 on Casey's idea. I've actually ordered parts from them several times...years and years ago....starting back in '99. When I was dealing with them then, they were pretty cool. It's probably totally different people now, but it might be worth a shot.

I'd go with #3. I'd be flattered! Your car is getting to be pretty well known, which could easily lead to some sort of sponsorship down the road. Having it featured on that website only helps.

No reason to even bat an eye. Once you post a pic on the interwebz, you no longer have any control over it.

I put your car on the mazmart website somewhere too. ;)

You need to approach them as the photographer not the car owner. As the creator of the image you own the copyright for the photo and are will gladly sell them the right to use it on their site. At least that the way it is supposed to work now.

I agree. This why you should also add a watermark to any picture that you post online if your worried about creditability.

The issue I'd have is if these guys sell junk, or are just general asses, look who you're now associated with...

Go with Rob. Unless you pitch yourself as the owner of the media and not the content then they won't care. If they claim to have acquired it legit then ask them for the credentials/info of the photographer or agency that they got it from.
