Smokes like a train. Gets worse at high rpms, just did vc gasket, cam seals, crank seal and had stopped oil leak completly. Just burnt around a quart of oil in 2 miles or so. advice?

wow thats a absurd. Are you sure its not leaking somewhere, and burning off on something hot? or are you certain its coming from the exhaust?

Nope, not a drop of oil on the ground, its coming from the back right side of the car where the exaust is. No sounds, only problem i've felt is hesitation in acceleration

Well, if youre sure its from the exhaust, you may have a broken piston ring or something. I just don't see how something like a PCV valve could cause so much oil to burn.

pcv has been replaced in the past year. At idle you see no smoke, the higher RPM it gets CONSIDERABLY worse.

PCV valves can easily fail, considering it's just a one-way check valve. Something could easily clog it and cause it to stick. Take it out and get some air through it. One direction should allow flow while the oppsosite direction should not allow air flow. If that doesn't test properly, culprit one found.

I took it out, shook it and it heard movement. Right now guesstimates are valve seals or piston rings. Compression check coming tomorrow

Hearing movement doesn't necessarily mean it's sealing. Stephen's (LagunaRoadster) had movement, but wasn't sealing at all. That's why I suggested the air flow test. :)

just checked it seems to be working fine, not to mention that just causes another problem doesnt it? It isnt the actual problem i thought.

1-4 cylinders: 175-165-152-152 dry wet 190-185-183-176 so 3 and 4 together suggest head gasket?

Its possible, but when the gasket is blown between two cylinders the compression is much, much lower. Your numbers look about the same as mine just before my rebuild. I was burning 1qt of oil per 100 miles.

If I had seen you driving around town blowing that much smoke, I would have flagged you to pull over before you give all of us Miata drivers a bad name :P

BTW I saw a completely bondo covered Miata on 41 & Dunbar that waved at me tonight -- looked like a bomber nose kit and ricer wing on the back. I know that wasn't you cuz I didn't see any smoke.

whats the maximum variance between the wet and dry vac test?

Lol, i've seen him, its horrible. Mine is a black and tan. Stock exterior right now

also, there is hesitation in low to mid rpms but high rpms runs great.

After talking to my mechanic, he says that it'd be cheaper to just swap the motor because I'm looking at a pulling the motor and doing all new rings seals and gaskets in this one. Most of the stuff I've looked at points to bad rings.
