We've all been in accidents and hopefully made it out ok!! Let's post the horror that we've survived. :)

Don't forget to tell the story behind it as well.

I'll start...

I was taking a left hand bend ~40mph on Peachtree Pkwy in PTC when deer ran out in front of me and I swerved to miss them. Rear spun but the front tires gripped and darted me right into a tree. I made it out with any scratches.

This one, Sawyer and I were on our way to the movies in Fayetteville traveling on HWY 54. A deer jumped out and I hit the **** out of him at ~70 mph.

That's an understatement! He got slaughtered!

Deer don't really like us too much.

Well, it doesn't look like much, but Saturns have an insane capability of folding their panels back out (except the hood).
I was sitting still in traffic when I was hit from the rear at about 45mph by a Jetta and was pushed forward into a Corolla. The Jetta driver got out and yelled at me saying, "What the hell were you doing?!" I looked at him and said, "Waiting for the traffic in front of me to go, what the hell were you doing?" He grumbled a response and got back in his car. He told the cops later that I hit the car in front of me, and as a result, he hit me. They told him he was full of it, and wrote him 3 tickets. Following too closely, expired license, and for not having his kid buckled up in the back seat.
They totaled the car after they took the body panels off and found that the frame looked a lot like a "C".
No major injuries, I did have compacted cartilage in my left knee which at times still hurts a lot. Did physical therapy and all that, but still can't support weight or run like I used to be able to. Sometimes shifting a stiff clutch hurts. Anyway...

I don't have any digital pictures of my first RX7 eating a fire hydrant nor any pictures of what the guy that bought my FD did to it a few weeks after he bought it from me.

+1 for another rollover.... but this is where i learned how good the Hard Dog bars are.

3 rolls @ ~60mph and walked away without any injury whatsoever.

Eric, they claimed the Saturn to be totalled from that accident?

RotorNutFD3S
10-15-2008, 01:30 PM
Reading > You. :P

Yeah, when they took the panels off along the driver's side, the framework, instead of being straight, was arching. The passenger side was still straight, however it was also stretched... Anyway, cost of repairing it was way too high. So bye bye turbo Saturn. Parted it out and bought the Miata.

I know they totaled it but I'm just surprised due to the lack of visual damage.

...and that's why you need to throughly check a car before buying it ;)

If the car is missing vin #'s on any of the panels, I question it and thoroughly look over that section of the car.

RotorNutFD3S

I never was able to get any good angle shots, but the tail end of the car was sagging horribly, and the front was aiming to the left somewhat too.

Wow, what happen to Saturn's dent resistant body panels??

RotorNutFD3S
10-15-2008, 10:40 PM
They resisted the dents! The parts under them, not so much.
I got hit in that car twice, pretty hard too, where the other insurance company would cut me a check for repairs and paint. I'd go replace a bracket under the panel or something, buff it all out, and spend maybe $50 and pocket $1,500 or so. :) I loved the car for that.

i dont have any pictures from my accidents but i do have stories. My first accident was in my 87 s10 blazer and i hit a deer at an estimated 100+ mph. it moved the whole front end back approximately 6 inches and drove the water pump through the block. I walked away from this uninjured, not even a scratch. That one i was wearing a seat belt.

the next one was in a 99 Izuzu Amigo 4x4. it had the v6 in it and was pretty nice. well one day i left the house to go respond to an emergancy of a person OD'ing and about 1/4 from my house my tire blew sending me in a ditch at 85 mph. while riding the ditch i also took out a street sign. then i appropriately hit the edge of one of the concrete things that run under a drive way and proceeded to get some air hanging 4. while in the air i smashed into a propane tank and took out the side of a barn and then went back out into the road. once in the road i then did the aerobatic maneuver known as a barrel roll a couple times and landed on the wheels. once that happened i proceeded to call in my own accident into dispatch and get help out there. i was very lucky in that i didnt die, because i was NOT wearing a seat belt, had major laceration on my head requiring 15 stitches, also worth mentioning the piece of scalp the reattached was more like a flap door for my skull. yes my skull was that visible. the doctor said that normally when people come in with this kind of injury they end up going into a coma and die, so i know feel very lucky to be here today and have since then always put my seat belt on BEFORE i move my car. that was one of the interesting facts about this accident is that i used to always put my seat belt on RIGHT after this curve.

and my 3rd accident was when i hit a cow. when i hit it i didnt even believe i had hit a cow. my friend and i were argueing over whether it was a cow or a deer. i said deer. well we were both wearing our seat belts and walked away unscathed and the car was totaled.

unfortunately i dont have pics for any of these tho.

This is what happens when you dont have rear brakes. This happened, because i was needing to go to gainesville for school, and my truck broke, and my backup vehicle of my dad's was at the airport, and i had already missed the maximum number of days in my class, so i had to go. Well needless to say, it was after my suspension install where i had to remove the rear brake lines, and well i put them back on and put fluid in, but didnt bleed them yet. SO i hopped in it and went to class. ON my lunch break it started raining when i was driving and I slid into an E350 panel van with a diamond plate bumper. So ya I was a dumbass. Its painful for me to look at. The worst part about it, is i slid for like 200 feet and i couldnt go off the road because it was about a 15 foot drop straight off the side.

Nope, no ticket. I think the cop felt bad for me, even the guy i hit was like. "Its a shame that it had to happen to that car." I told him that a seal on the master cylinder must have gone, because i have a 2 chambered master cylinder, he felt the brakes and everything. The worst part is, the reason why the car in front of me slammed his brakes on. Its because a convience store a couple hundred yards up the road had been robbed, and cops were flying in there, which cut the flow of traffic. I was so pissed. haha it was funny, the guy i hit was like ya something was wrong, becasue he was sliding for a long time. Luckily my emergency brake got me down from 55 to about 10mph

Well, its being fixed. The body work is done, and i have a couple areas of light rust that need attention, after that i will get it repainted. Im going to finish reassembling it this week I was doing a sort of frame off restoration on it.

Rearended in traffic by a woman in an Expedition (she thought looking at her daughter in the back seat was more imporant than looking where she was going) which then punted me into another Expedition that was in front of me. Needless to say, the miata absorbed all the impact. Some unibody damage both front and rear and some of the major panels. Snake Farm ended up buying the car from me for $4825.94 which wan't too bad. And dont worry the Expeditions were fine. :)

It did allow me to distribute my old parts to some fellow enthusists and pick up a nice is300.

Not really an accident, but I spun off of 316 last night coming home from the Athens meet. A deer ran out in front of me and when I hit the brakes to slow down the rear end locked up. I went sideways at 70 mph and wound up facing the opposite direction from where I was coming from in the center median. No damage to the car that I know of, but the tires are destroyed.

I don't have any pics but right after i bought my mustang i spun it into a tree, no bad damage at all, just a driver's door and my car was fixed. I never called the cops but one showed up and tryed to write me a ticket but I some how wouldn't let him lol, my friends pulled me out of the mud i was in and i drove it home and broke my arm three days later, that sucked. Also when i was doing a lapping day at RA before my frist race in a Panoz car i spun coming out of three and hit inside for 3 outside for 4 wall which is covered with stacked tires and knocked the tail light out and cracked the left rear quater fiberglass panel, it cost like 400 to fix it.

I hit mine on Beaver Ruin, about a mile off of I-85. I've seen several doe's wondering around Stone Mtn Hwy 78 right next to the cemetery. You don't have to be in the mountains, there are plenty of Bambi's to kill in your neighborhood.

I meant to post these a while back but forgot.

Here are some pictures of a kit I knew that totalled his Jetta during H.S. Apparently he was trying to pass a bus, 2 wheels on the passenger side went off the road, over corrected into the left lane which the 2 wheels on the driver side then went off the road and spun the car right into a tree. The speed limit on that road is 45 mph, the investigators at the scene of the accident state he was doing ~70 at the time of impact. They had to cut the roof of the car off just to get him and his passenger out of the vehicle. The driver doesn't ever recall taking that road home that day. Needless to say, he was in the ICU for almost a month and now the kid is into some hardcore drugs. I guess he doesn't realize how lucky he is to still be alive.

I had to talk the cops into allowing me to take these pictures.

In the truck, I was on a dirt road going about 45 with bad rear tires, I hit a sand patch and slid, front facing right. I fought it back toward the left but over corrected and front faced left. I hit a dirt bank and did a back flip.

The acura, I had just gotten off work and i was pissed b-c my gf was cheating on me. I took off from the parking spot(apparently a cop saw me and was chasing me, i did not know this til after) and was rolling about 70 when I couldnt quite take a curve, slid off the road and fliped down into a deep ditch, by deep I mean 20 ft drop, though not that steep, its wide.

I put on the spare so that I wouldnt wreck my wheel so much. The fender was pushing into the wheel before hand.

Somebody was driving while talking on their cell phone??

Dumb ***** on a cell phone doesn't see that traffic has stopped and plows me underneath an F150 on 285:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r156/FooSchnickens/a8fa140b153f.jpg

I was only 2 exits away from my destination, too. :(

Hit an oily spot on an off-camber turn in the wet and slid into a tree, airbags didn't go off, but I was ok:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r156/FooSchnickens/7c79e0f319f8.jpg

I ended up totalling it because a certain dealer on P'tree Ind *cough*JimEllis*cough* lied to me about it having a branded title and rather than lose their dealer's license they decided to settle. So I paid a bunch of stuff off, added to my college fund and bought the BRG.

Ford Econoline Van that ran a redlight right as I was leaving work at RSpeed:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r156/FooSchnickens/BRG/PICT3633.jpg

It still ran fine after that, just needed a new wheel and control arm to get rolling. Frame was straight. d('_'d) Got it all fixed up and you can't even tell it happened aside from the ever-so-slight color difference between the rear fender and trunk lid, and the driver's door is a little weathered from being in a junkyard. That'll get fixed when I'm ready to respray the whole car.

Just happened yesterday. To celebrate the beginning of spring break, I went out to a nice road and drove more aggressively than I normally do. Took a turn too fast (my brake pads are in dire need of changing) - slid and hit one of those sharp turn signs at about 40. Knocked the sign 20 feet away. The sign actually slowed me down enough so that when I hit the guard rail, it was more of a bump than head on collision.

State patrol came. We talked for a bit, and then he left. No ticket or anything. Much love for Missouri state patrol.

Ok here's mine. October 2005 wrecked my '97 R package clone going to Kurt's house to buy the oil sending unit mod parts. Jeep turned out in front of us on Lawrenceville Hwy, we were doing about 50, locked up the brakes and hit the Jeep's left rear wheel. The Jeep spun around, we were fine, bruises and such, but nothing else. Got the car home, Kurt gave us a ride home, the next day went out and bought a 1995 R package (real one), and proceeded to strip the wrecked one and swap parts to the replacement car. You should have seen the pizza delivery guy's face when he showed up and we had two identical cars in the driveway, shop lights strung all over and parts being frantically swapped back and forth before they towed it the next day.
Hood was a little tricky to get opened, nice imprint of Jeep wheel in front bumper:

Front shock on this side was bent in a 45 degree angle:
http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo337/shawnmccallum/CIMG0044.jpg
Front sway bar was so bent it wouldn't come out of the car, the front was shifted over so much:

Meet your replacement:

Should have let off the brakes.

By the time I realized what had happened, it was sideways and fully locked over to the right. If I had let off, it would have snapped back across into the trees.

I'm not too sure. The cop and I tried to figure it out for ~30 mins but never came to a conclusion.

The car went into the body shop on Wednesday and while it's in there, I'm having them do a few extra things.

If we mount one camera to the opening of his front bumper, his headlights should emit enough light.

We can also mount a second camera in the interior facing the gauges.
