My poor Diff finally blew up on me in my buddy driveway. So now i am looking to grab me a another so i can stop looking at my poor miata on jack stands.
I am looking for one that can really withstand the beating and be rather cheap on the scale. I am pretty sure i am gonna go with the new model car vlsd or just get me a jdm torsen. Not sure what my chocies will be with the 90 miata so any help would be kick ***.

jdm torsen...? they had those here. they can take a beating but like pretty much any diff, they arent 100% bulletproof. miata VLSD is basically an open diff, so your best bet is a torsen of some sort of aftermarket LSD. i think the OBX one is around 400 bucks and i have only heard good things about it.

I have 99+ torsens in 4.3(5-speed) or 3.9(6-speed) ratio. I also have the Tochigi Fuji Super LSD from a 2003 6-speed(3.9). The complete swap kit for a 1990-1993 including complete carrier, 2 axels and driveshaft is $1150 for the 4.3 Tosen of $1050 for the 3.9 Torsen or $950 for the 3.9 Tochigi Fuji. My contact info is below.

"Cheap" LSD would be a VLSD.
The words 'cheap' and 'Torsen swap' do not generally go together.
Just like 'cheap' and 'hardtop', or 'cheap' and 'BEGI S4' etc etc
Certain parts have a known value, thats just how it is.

Here's the thing: any diff from a 1.6L car is going to be a weak point. Just moving up to the bigger ring gear buys you a lot in terms of reliability.

theres no 1990 torsen, they didnt put torsens in miatas until they started putting the 1.8 in them. torsens arent "jDm", they came in cars here too. for a torsen in a 1,6 you'll need the driveshaft, diff, housing/carrier, and the axleshafts. dont waste your money on a vlsd unless you plan on having it rebuilt ASAP. if youre looking for cheap, go with the OBX lsd. its like 400 bucks on ebay, bolts in, and OBX makes reasonably high quality for a chinacrap company. theres tons of honda drag cars that have OBX lsds and have no problems. one way to be sure that it doesnt fall apart is to disassemble it and reassemble it, making sure to get all torque specs right along with fixing any even slight problems you may find.
however the best option would be to go for the Kaaz lsd. its not cheaply made like the OBX unit, and for drifting its much better than a torsen because its a clutch-type diff, and doesnt open up like a torsen will under heavy weight transfer.

I'm going to have to disagree and go with OS Gilken on this one, as far as high-end diffs go.

theres a pretty large price difference between the two though isnt there?

About $350. Money well spent too if you really need a clutch-type.

Define large? A few hundred bucks IIRC (edit: Thanks Rotor lol) and from everything I hear, the difference is way more than that in feel / performance.

Not to mention you can set the OS up in multiple ways to fit your needs as well.

just spend the money on the Kaaz. its not like its going in a hardcore racecar or anything, theres nothing wrong with going a little cheaper and compromising if its in a street car. the Kaaz is a high-quality unit, just not adjustable and not quite as badass as the OS. i wouldnt be able to justify putting it in a car for daily driving, and especially not with the price difference. so unless youre a ***** for expensive "jDm" parts or other niche stuff of the like, dont waste your money.
