When I worked at Buger Fling, we did some not so nice stuff to the ******* customers buahaha
I know better than to take out not-so-good food on the waiter/waitress... it's not their fault. But bad service is another thing. Jenn and I went to Ruby Tuesdays once and the service was horrid. The waitress was more converned about cleaning the floor over making sure we had silverware, never refilled our drinks and never apologized for the **** ups. In that case, we did let the manager know.

MeFryRice

I've only received bad service once and that was recently at Outback. I filled out their survey to let them know about the situation, not necessarily to get free stuff, and the manager of the store called me and sent us a $45 Meal On Us coupon. We went back and everything was perfect that time.

When I worked at Chili's, I was offered the position of management for the new store that was opening in Camp Creek. Needless to say, I hated the food business and I knew that was one more step into that field which I didn't want.

RotorNutFD3S

Well, the dumbass was making a huge scene about how the food sucked, the service sucked, yadda yadda yadda. I dealt with this all the time, and normally I would be all apologetic (fake of course) and try to do what I could to make the customer happy. But 1. this wasn't the first time he had come in there and done it, and 2. he was complaining about one of the highest tipped and highest requested server we had, and she had been doing an awesome job. We were busy as hell that night too, Oklahoma State vs. OU, and our Outback was right down the street for the people that weren't at the stadium.
I explained to him about who he was complaining about, while she stood there and listened, and he said "I don't give a ****, she sucks." So I, and the other manager, asked him nicely to leave. He didn't like that and became more beligerant, I was fed up with him, so I took it upon myself to remove him forcefully, literally yelling at him the whole way to the door that if he didn't like the service and food, that he needed to go somewhere else and never return.
So they put me in charge of the kitchen, but I achieved hero status among the servers, most of them said I was the only manager that ever stood up for one of them like that.

The only reason I was in the food industry, as much as I didn't want to make a career of it, was because it was paying the bills while I was in flight school. I hope I never have to do it again.

I never have had to get mean with a custome in any job i've had that made me deal with the public. But when I worked at Toyota Mall of Ga, we had this lady that came in with a n/s Supra (yes, she knew what she had and it was her baby). She came to us because she was told not to go back to Worl Toyota for being a PITA. Well, I was on light duty work after getting hurt so I couldn't work under the cars and was doing all of the top work. I told the guy working under the car several times to remove the belly tray before draining the oil and removing the filter. Once the car was done, i signed off on it and it left. Well she came in the next day raising absolute hell because there was 1(one) drop of oil on her garage floor that morning. Turns out the idiot under the car did it his way and didn't do what I told him. So the service manager comes and starts raising hell with me, i told him who was under the car and I proceeded to go ***** him out. Dip**** decides to pop-off on me and say he's better at changing oil and I don't know what I am doing and that he is better because he worked at Kauffman before (ironically, i did too). The manager watched all of this... walked over and fired the guy on the spot  All in front of the car's owner.

The owner of the Supra was always nice to me after that and I was one of two people who were allowed to touch the car.

I don't have too many ****ty job stories. Well, I did get cussed out by someone when I worked at SuperPetz as a teenager. My very large (but sweet) coworker took good care of that one for me. I haven't worked with the public at all since getting out of college.

Oh, there was this one time when I was working at a car dealership when some drunk guy asked if he could buy me along with his new car. Wtf? My coworkers gave me a hard time about that one. It's okay, I told the salesguy to stick it to him as much as possible on the car.

I've had a table like that. I gave them perfect service, even sat down and talked to them for a bit because it was slow. Then as they were about to leave, they wrote on the credit card slip "Worst service we've ever received at Chili's." Seriously? I freakin sat down and talked to you for 10 minutes about your kids!

But your question about the managers.. They know that it happens, but the damn policy that "The customer is always right" takes over and they discount food just to get them to shut up!

Example:
During the whole Salmonella Tomato thing, this lady *****ed that her nachos had no flavor because the tomatoes weren't in it. Sorry, but that's not my fault. If you want to get Salmonella, go right ahead. Managers gave her free food, of course..

Sorry, I've been with Chili's for almost 3 years (unfortunately) so I have many many stories to tell.

Well, my question pertained more to how the managers deal with the employees after a complaint rather then how they deal with the customer. I know they'll always try to just shut them up with free stuff.

I do have a kinda funny work story. For a short time I worked at Hollister Co. but I wasn't there during the day, I was part of the night team that cleaned and restocked the store at night. Well, I had never done this "on-call" bull**** before. So one night I was on call and called an hour before work and the evening manager hadn't come it yet to determine if I was going to work or not. So a friend of mine took me up to the mall just in case (my car was down at the time and I had to rely on other people for rides). We decided to go eat before the mall closed as I only worked after the store was closed. Right after I got done with my dinner, I called again and the mgr. still was not there and no one could make the call if I needed to be there or not. Thinking I was off the hook, I had a few drinks..including 2 shots of 252 (Bacardi 151 and something else 101). Needless to say, I was lit. So I call again as the mall is closing because i'm the kinda guy that won't use the "i called 10 min before closing and didn't get an answer" excuse to not work. Well sure enough they needed me. I get down there to find the big head people were in the store that night too, great. Here I am, organizing a wall of jeans thinking everything was OK... eventhough I could barely stand. I stepped back to make sure the display was all nice and neat only to discover that I pretty much made everything worse  Realizing I was about as useless as an *** on an elbow, i told my mgr. the situation. He kinda laughed and told me to go ahead and go home, and that he'd tel lthe big shots that I came in and was clearly sick. He knew he ****ed up by not being there on time to relay who was working and who wasn't. It was the only time i've ever gotten to go to work pretty much drunk :)

I could fill a thread with my own stories...

I worked at a broom factory...yes you read that correct, broom factory...for 7 yrs....during that time putting my wife through college. Anyway, the jobs were all paid on piece rate. No hourly wages.
I of course had the ****tiest job in the entire place, one which was physically demanding and from which I still suffer physical effects. A bossy ***** of an old lady worked in the same dept with me, but Mrs Hitler had a much easier job that paid better. I tried to get that job but was told REPEATEDLY by management that everything was based upon seniority. Okay...so I paid my dues and worked like a dog. Finally after several years I got the better job and Mrs Hitler moved on.

The company was then sold to a competitor who was must have been known to have been a nazi death camp superintendent too I think! Anyway, the new owner walked in the door and without even coming across the production floor looked over at me doing my job asked the production manager what my pay rate was, and after hearing it told the manager to cut it in half. :jawdrop: My wife was just finishing her nursing degree so I stuck around longer anyway...like a dumbass.

Then one day the manager came out and told me to go back to my old job. I asked why. He said because I was the best operator of that machine in the history of the company and the fastest.
I told him I didnt want to because I could no longer really do it as the physical cost was to great, and I had earned seniority to have the job I was in...which was ****ty anyway since my pay was cut by 50%, and not only that the other job had suffered the same rate cut as well. Plus the person then doing the job was quite good at it. The manager replied "There is no such thing as seniority here, I need you over there, now get over on that machine"

I stood up from my chair and told him to "run the ****in machine himself"...and walked out.
My wife had graduated the week before and my need to work there was no longer in effect.

Funny thing is, the new owner intentionally ran that place into the ground, and ultimately that manager had to run my machine and the others too before he too lost his job a couple years later.

They just say that they know it's not your fault, some people are just hard to please. They are usually really understanding. A lot of the managers join us in making fun of the customers!

Well, considering the night manager was a 5'1" walking sterioid that only dated 16yr olds (he was 33) and was ready to go off on people... no, it wasn't fun at all. I worked on the guys side of the store everynight while the mgr. and all of the 16yr olds sat around on the girls side and flirted with eachother. I was later fired because, as usual, he never got to work on time and I couldn't get an answer as to if i needed to be there or not and I didn't call a 5 til closing. I came in the next day and was told to leave. Well, 2 weeks after that, the same manager chased a kid out of the store, did a low-body tackle and slammed the kit (who was 15) against a wall and blew out the kids knee... the mgr. got arrested while on the clock. So when I went to pick up my paycheck, I told the big manager what happened to lead to my firing and was told "anything he did is now irrevelant and you ar emore than welcome to come back to work". I passed on that opportunity.

He must have liked the older women too because he made a serious attempt on seducing my wife too. Needless to say he didnt remain friends with me for long after that. Last I heard he had gotten arrested for some kiddie porn/ molestation thing at a home for wayward boys where he was a counselor. Talk about the blind leading the blind. :wtf:

The dealerships I worked at were only fun when I got to drive cool cars, from the Shelby GT500 and Ford GT, to the S2000 CR, a supercharged NSX, to a MOOOOO-gen Civic (cool for Honda I guess). Most of the people were great to work with too.

Now, Yamaha ranks as about the coolest job I've had. This is about the least physical work I've ever had to do, and it's really nice for a change. It is challenging mentally, always have to think way ahead and make sure all the angles are covered. Other than that, pretty easy, and the people are really cool and diverse.

Had a customer wanted some Ice Dream, right? We were supposed to weigh it out on this gay little scale, but I thought it was ridiculous. Almost two bucks for a cone, and it would be a tiny little squeeze. So I'd just load it up however I felt like, and people never complained. I get this one black lady, she tells me I didn't serve her the right amount. Thinking she was joking I said yeah, I served you too much. She said I served her too little, so I launched into the little explanation on how much she was actually paying for. Said she deserved more, so I told her if she wanted more she'd just have to pay for the large instead of the small. Oh lord, here we go. She started screaming that I was a racist black-hating mother****er and all this other bull****, and there are people in line behind her! She blows up at me so I call up the other cashier to start his shift early and I go in the back.

After the fact I learned that one of the customers in line behind the evil woman, one of my regulars, followed her outside and screamed every obscenity in the book at her. I loved it, so the regular got free drinks until I quit.

WTF?

My one bad work story was similar. I rarely worked at the register but it was about 5 minutes after opening and no one else was there. A guy comes up and buy some stuff, pays cash and I go to hand him his change. He's walked a few feel away to look at something and then the phone rings. I lay his change on the counter and step over and grab the phone. As soon as I hang up I'm about to tell him thank you and have a nice day and he goes off on me and says I'm racist because I wouldn't hand him his change. I'm like ... are you even serious?? I told him that I was just answering the phone and since there are only two employees in the store and the other is back in the back where you can't hear the phone, I have to answer it or I could get in trouble. Now.. I'm like 18 years old and completely confused by this guy when my coworker, about 6'5" big ole teddy bear of a black guy who is one of the nicest people on the face of this Earth hears him and walks out from the back and says "Excuse me? Did you just yell at her?". Yeah.... that didn't last much longer. The guy left and I was unhappy because I didn't do anything and I really do not like being yelled at by a complete stranger in a place where I am working and cannot say what I really want to say. My coworker told me not to be bothered by such ignorance and if the guy ever came back, he would gladly ring up his purchase and then put his change on the counter.

Speaking of change....

When I worked at Chili's as a server, I had a table of senior citizens that were done with their meal and ready to pay. I bring back their change and that was that. About 10 mins later the manager walks up to me saying that I have complaint from the people at the front door. I was like WTF?? I peeked around from the back and saw that it was those old ****ers that could die at any given moment. She asked me if I had given them their correct change back and I said yeah, duh. I know how to count. They complained that I had short changed them a ****ing dime. I walked back over to the table and saw a dime sitting on there. I picked it up and handed to the guy but he never apologized for making a mistake that his old *** can't see that HE left the change on the table.

Another one from Toyota....

At the dealership, we had 4 express bays that had pits (like walmart) and there were small in ground lifts on either side of the pic so we could lift a car while it was over the pic and do an oil change. Well, they had a bit of play in them and every time your drive over them they made a "clunk pop" sound that was loud (depending on how fast you drive over them). Well I was pulling in a Camry as another tech was pulling an Avalon out. Oh, the customer waiting lounge was righ tnext to the bay I was working at and had a large window overlooking the bays. The problem is, that when you are sitting there, you can only see a car from the door handle up. So as i pulled my car in and the other one left the lifts clanked as usual, but the next thing I know there is some ******* getting in my face saying that I used his car to push another vehicle out of the way :wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf:

So he goes and get's the service manager and starts rasing hell with him. In that time I ran out and had the guy who pulled the Avalon out, bring it back over to the bay and I pointed out that there was no damage to either car because there was no such collision and explained to him about the lifts. Oh he wasn't going to be proven wrong. So he sat there and told the manager that he saw the tech's head jolt back in the lead car. The manager looks at that tech and asks him he felt the car get hit and he said no. *******. He still got a free oil change and we had a "meeting to discuss moving cars".
