Nothing falling from the sky here. Not even since I woke up.
Now if you had said that yesterday...

There was a slight drizzle in PTC but nothing like yesterday.

Well, according to lastnight, the rain was long gone and the skies were clearing....until the phantom rain ghost came out of nowhere this morning  I still can't belive how much a tire can absolutly SUCK in the rain when it costs so much (Toyo FZ4..... it's like driving on ice even at full tread depth)

They may need some time to wear in properly. Everyone and every review I've seen have given them pretty good results in the rain...
Or maybe it's just operator error...

I'd be willing to bet that those have more traction. Hell, I was getting onto 285 and rolled into 4th and got wheel spin... then as I was turning off the highway the car started sliding out.. and I was going the same speed as every other car around me and wasn't even on the gas! ****s scary... but luckily i don't mind the car sliding out

If they are new, then the tires will need to shed their mold release and will be greasy until they do so. Also remember that wide tires on a light car will be much more likely to come out in the rain. My current tires are pretty decent in the rain, but I make it a habit to stay under atmo pressure.
I would not want Azenis in the rain. There are a couple cars around here that demonstrate why.

The tires had a couple hundred miles on them at most, they didn't have the mold release on them or the stripes.
Or the fact that the compound is that hard. Hydroplaning resistisance might be good, but they have no lateral grip whatsoever and the sidewalls are about has stiff as a wet paper bag  I'll end up getting better tires and selling these.

Yeah, I have the same tires and I hate them.. I miss my Yokohamas

10-09-2008, 09:06 AM
LOL.. i jsut went to look up the prices on them..which have dropped a lot, but then again, it's been out for at least 8 years whichs is ancient for a tires and has not been redesigned. But it was listed as an all-season tire.... no ****ing wonder they suck!

for some reason my chitty cheapass tires are HORRIBLE in the rain, and they arent even bald. maybe like 40-50 percent in the front, and even more in the rear. :wtf: i started drifting on harbins road yesterday at like 55mph. it was kinda scary considering i didnt see it coming plus there was traffic in the other lane.

I love the fact that I didn't pay much for my Kumho Ecsta SPTs and they are great for wet and dry weather. And if you warm them up, they get real sticky. :)
Doppelgänger
10-09-2008, 09:21 AM
I might look into the Kumho MX's or the Sumitomo HTR ZII... i've hear good reviews on both.
God damn all-seasons........ WTF.

they came on the new wheels i just picked up :) It's all nearly brand new too...

10-09-2008, 09:25 AM
I figured that part. Just wondered if you bought everything new, or gently used.
Doppelgänger
10-09-2008, 09:31 AM
Well, the guy i bought the wheels from got them through his work as open box clearance and bought new tires for them..drove on them for less than a month and the engine keeled over and he parked it. The rims are practically brand new.. they just don't have center caps. I'll get pics up soon... **** looks killer.

I like my 'all season' tires...although I think they'd suck as true all season.
Theyre mainly good for normal wet/dry driving. I cant see them
being any good at all in ice and snow. Talking Toyo Proxes 4 here.
Very good for normal street driving but worthless for track or anything
like that. They work well in the rain and are very quiet.
The S Drive Yokohama's are a bit disappointing so far. They are noisy as hell.
I agree with Ben, Azenis are great...IF youre on dry....in the wet they suck balls.

meh I don't have problems with my Azeni's in the rain, they're much better than the G-Force Sports I had on the Suby for hydroplane resistance. But then again I don't really drive hard in the rain ever.
Nothing can compare to the dry rotted crap old seasons my car with, combine that with positive camber on one side and 0 on the other and I was in for a hella scary time up in the mountains on a cold wet morning.

See jack, im not the only one that thinks azenis arent good rain tires. They dont hold a candle to my 512's i had for rain driving. But after all, thats why Azenis arent all seasons

Tyler how do you drive in the rain exactly? I have never had a worrying incident on my Azeni's compared any other tyre I've driven on in the rain. Even Mitch who's driven on more all seasons than you can shake a stick at likes them.

Haha thats not true, ive been driving a few years more than he has jack, and these are my fisrt set of tires that werent all seasons, and they are good in the wet and not so grippy in the wet, even reviews from the company itsself will tell you that. I mean it doesnt take much to make a 2100lb car hydoplane, especially when theres no tread on the tire. Not to mention the tires are warn to the wear indicators. trust me though jack, the tires you had on your miata before werent good tires, so dont hate on all seasons, yours were economy tires that were dry rotted and dangerous.[hr]
I didnt say worrying incident, i just said they arent good in the rain.

Maybe i'll buy a set of stuck fun street tires for one of my sets of wheels and leave some good street tires on the other..... that way I have a set for racing, a set for mountain driving and a set for daily :)

haha they have no hydroplane resistance, theres no where for the water to channel out of the tire like there is on all seasons. when you hit an inch or 2 of standing water on the road, you pretty much float across it on azenis. Plus jack, have you ever owned a set of all seasons before? becasue the azenis, and you g force sports and the crap tires that came on the car when you got it, none of those were all seasons.
